I can't see how simple stupidity could be considered funny.

Apart than nonsensical comparing politics with sports, you seem to lack some History knowledge. Netherlands was also a "colony" (in fact, provinces), and its sport result was far better than a discrete 0-2 (so you missed the chance of making something funnier). In addition, the term overlord could apply better to them, as they were different people with different culture (but subject to same ruler), than to 'Chileans' who shared them all (in fact, no Chile existed at all by then, but 'Spanish America' as a big territory).

So, acording to your logics, way of thinking and 'humour', I guess it will be a big L O L when, let's say, Poland could defeat Germany, Austria and Russia in the same WC. Don't you agree?
