Subject: »Climate Change and Global Warming

You mean that believing in global warming is an act of faith?

I agree with Charles, global warming is a scientific theory. Just telling you don't believe in global warming without giving NO argument won't make the discussion progress.

@every one: if you answer this thread, cite some arguments, references, etc. Giving no arguments just isn't fair, and is a proof of ignorance.

I do firmly trust science, and from what I've experienced -I'm studying pure science- faith has got nothing to do with it.

But it is also true that global warming can be taken from another point of view too: what normal people -those who are not used to dealing with science, those who prove their ''ignorance''; if you prefer- think about it. It is because ''ignorants'' can also waste energy.

So, what I meant is that Global Warming is both a matter of science, thanks God, and a matter of belief. Because of that, imho, everyone can take part in this topic without citing any references (and that's what I've just done, sorry)

Come on, you won't tell me global warming is also part of theology. It's a bit easy imo, only for lazy people who don't want to read about greenhouse effect, oceanic streams, water dilatation due to warmer temperature, and so on.

I thought, that we were all better than that, but it seems that people more and more consume without thinking, turning down their brain. The less you know, the less questions you'll ask, the happier you'll live, and also the easier you'll get fooled.
That's the easier way, and also the wrong one.

Ignorance is something, that everybody can defeat, by cultivating themselves. Who seriously wants to be an ignorant fool?

Who seriously wants to be an ignorant fool?
no-one but something shocking should happen if we want those people to take part in the problem...
It's so sad, but it's not a matter of wanting, it's a matter of being; and those who are, rarely change their energy-wasting lives...
Theology?!? I meant that scientific investigation is not the only activity that should be carried out, cause science is unfortunately not enough in order to persuade everyone: many people need more facts and ''less'' information.

Roxxi,in what world are you living? In romania from a temperate climate as it was 10-20 years ago , it starts to be a tropical one and i hate it . Now I m using more often the taxies when Im visiting than before though i like walking .It's hot llike hell here, many floods and other weather events, people become homeless because of them ,my brother and i donated a lot of clothes.
I think you don't feel the effect because in Brasil had a tropical season before.

To do with the Planet, people think in 10-20 years, Las Vegas and areas around it will be deserted due to the amount of water being used, and the amount left (sounds stupid but it's true).

When push comes to shove, the human race will do what it has always done, survive. But things are going to have to get really bad before we get to that point.
There are things that could be done now but the governments are being selfish for financial reasons, they'll find out eventually though that money doesn't have much value when half your country is under water. At that point, everyone will act and to some extent, the earth will be reset.

The thing is, it's all natural, Global Warming and Global Cooling, there's proof of it, so I don't know why everyone's getting worried about it, the only problem is the Government's are scare-mongering.

It's the old Pascals Wager question in a different form.

I've got everything to gain and nothing to lose with my viewpoint. If I'm wrong then fine, I look a bit silly. If you're wrong then we're f**ked. Isn't it better to be safe than sorry when you've everything to lose by being wrong.

The governments aren't scare-mongering, it's not in their interest to do so because taking care of the ecology costs money. They'd really like to disprove it but they can't. The problem right now is that every study that's being done is actually being discredited by people with a view they want pushed. Multi billion dollar businesses are doing everything possible to crush "Global Warming" because of how much it's going to cost them so they're hiring their own "scientists" to rubbish anything credible. In turn the scientific community are getting desperate and becoming biased themselves. Public opinion is the battleground and people are getting really cynical when, if they look around, they'd see things going downhill.

The thing is, it's all natural, Global Warming and Global Cooling, there's proof of it

ofcourse that every climate shifts in the geological past was natural

but this one is induced by CO2 emited in large quantities by humans industry.

and the problem is that our civilisation growth in certain climatic conditions. our impact is going to change those condition and adaptation for those changes will cost propably much much more than avoiding them

that is the main danger for humans.

but there are also many other dangers for biosphere which is going to end by massive estinstion. unfortunatelly changes induced by our civilisation are so fast that evolution have no chance to addapt species for new condition - it simply takes much more time

Politicians Listen to the Polluters at UN climate talks
Feature story - December 11, 2011

UN climate talks in Durban have ended the same way they began, in failure. Governments at the UN climate talks have chosen to listen to the polluters over the people and failed to reinforce previous climate saving measures and have steered clear of new global rules for tackling climate change.

In 2020 they give it another try ........ at least China was willing to make some steps, but Obama and his team turned out to be nothing more than liars!
