Subject: »Climate Change and Global Warming

Again sorry for a reply with an article in Dutch, but I just read Yesterday something about the guy (Singer) in the second article you post. I'm not suggesting that the guy who wrote it, is completely right, the truth will be probably somewhere in the middle. George Monbiot is someone who strongly believes in the idea of global warming caused by humans.

Denial Industry

The essence of the piece about Singer is that many of his claims are not well backed by evidence, and that the funding he has received by exxon is bigger than Singer claims to be the case.

However: The main problem is in my opinion. People will reproduce the things the think. Somebody who is sceptical will search for things that prove he's right, and somebody who believes in human induced climate change will do the same. For every article arguing that there is a human contribution to climate change, there also one who argues the opposite.

I agree with you that the article about Singer is not a good example of my strong sources:P

Climate Change or low oil reserves, both stimulate new technology.

The Hague uses seawater to heat homes
Very smart idea. A large reversed refrigerator .. It's a Dutch invention and operational from today

"Denial Industry" - it is not about that at all... its more common sense... "Global Warming" always was, and is happening... there is no denying that, only its not "man made" at all, more... humans have no chance what-so-ever stopping or at least slowing it down... I suggest more research on how the sun works... ;-)

for start'ers: :-p (30mins each, :-/)
Space Ep1 [Google]
Space Ep2 [Google]
Space Ep3 [Google]
Space Ep4 [Google]
Space Ep5 [Google] ("New Worlds") -about the sun. -I suggest at least the first 5min ;-P
Space Ep6 [Google]
rest under "S" here. ;-)

Well, there is a lot of controversy about the role of the sun. I've seen both studies conforming that the role of the sun is minor, or that, according to the way the sun activity, the temperatures should actually decrease, but I've also seen studies that it is all sun-induced...

There are however, more reasons to decrease your consumption than just climate change. So in a way, it doesn't really matter whether climate change is happening or not.

"studies conforming that the role of the sun is minor" -thats exactly pure lack of "common sense", really... ;-) because the sun is what drives the weather (its the engine)... it can not be excluded in those "studies", greenhouse gases are the effect of the sun, not the cause... , same with "Global warming" its the effect of the suns activity. Humans role in this, is so tiny that its not even worth metioning... it is only "now"(last 50 years) that humans with 'quick comunications' realised the scale of this... and are panicing ;-) ect... ect... just like with the 2 days of 25cm of snow in London... ;-) pure "day after tommorow" stuff... ;-P and its only snow, and not much of it.

I don't understand your part about the snow in London. In case you mean that that's evidence that nothing is happening, I would like to point you at the heatwave in Australia.

greenhouse gases are are the effect of the sun, not the cause...
This is a really stupid phrase. What does come out of the exhaustion pipe of a car then? Chanel no.5? :P It's quite obvious that there are a lot of greenhouse gases which originate from non-natural processes. The amount of CO2 in the air at Mauna Loa, Hawaii, has increased with at about 25% since 1960.

Have you read about positive and negative feedback? A fluctuation in the sun over a certain threshold can cause effects on earth to take place. However, with the CO2 emissions by humanity we're having an influence on that feedback system. I don't have to tell you that intervention in a stabile system might have dangerous effects.
