i think its mainly, the sense of humour you say them in. a mate of mine used one as a joke and got away with it. i think it was thats a nice dress but it would look better on my bedroom floor. something like that anyway : )

It really depends on the girl and what's she looking for...
For example I have found that less talking sometimes is more efective... I normaly did this (Iwhen I was single :P)
I bought 2 drinks and stay at the bar (no the bar as a pub but the place in the club where you actually get your drinks) and look at the dance floor ... There will always be a girl looking at you you just have to find her, then you keep looking at her smilling letting her know you want her... She will at first ignore you but she will start looking again and again until she focus on you. At that point you nood your head pionting to the oder drink you bought ofering it to her, if she comes you have 75% of the job done. Then say something like "what took you so long" she would say something like I was waitting for you to make a move, and you reply I just did... She will most certanly smile a little and then you say come follow me... You head towards the dance floor and start dancing smothlly at first letting her come closer and closer to her, do not put you hands on her until she has got really close to you and then grab her waist (cintura in spanish) and star moving a bit faster, after a while you get behind her, grab her hand put it behind your head, grab her belly and go low .... If she respond to all of this, getting a kiss is inminnent. And then a lot of things can happend depending on the girl... It could end with a nice make out or at your place

I think this works just fine when a girl wants to have a good time, I don't mean that she will give to you all the way, but at least I have had a great time just dancing without any making out and staff like that... I had great friebdships with girls I meet this way who where not easy at all... But well the girl who takes part in this has to be really sociable if not it won't work...
Heheheh that's tru it happens a lot but in my strategy you are the one that aproches me (if we "connect") so you wouldn't have this problem with me.
Here in chile its quite common to see guys walking throw the dancefloor asking girls if they want to dance (in the short experience I had partying in other countries I realise that would never work like in cancun, argentina) well this in chile as I said its quite common but I don't do it anymore, and haven't donne it in a long time (since I was like 18 and I'm 22 now) cause I realised that if the girls say no you inmediately lose any chance you had with the near girls .... In conclusion I thinlk its better in the long term to make girls come to you than going towards a girl. Of course some time its obious a girls wants you to go hit on her but that's kind of slutty :P
