Subject: Pmanager

Noone have said it was done easily in PM. But with the right tactics it's possible to win despite of the opponent having better players than you. As I stated earlier in this thread I find it pretty nice, that new teams also have a chance to fight against the older and therefore well trained teams.

Its possible to win stronger teams in sokker too ;)

Having a better team here is something that requires skill much more than luck.

This long term planning is what i prefer instead of a game like HT where bad teams win due to random. If PM makes it due to playing better with scouting and random, that may be cool for some, too. I prefer the challenge of building a stronger team blended with the importance of tactics here.

Obviously there's random in Sokker too. Naturally it demands skills to make a great team in PManager as well, everyone who've played it seriously would know. The crux of the matter is that it's possible for the knowledgeable manager in the foreseeable time to build himself a team that makes it possible with the right scouting and not simply due to the random of the game engine to win against an older team. In Hattrick it's more or less impossible without heavy daytrading to enter the highest divisions because of the fact that the older teams have had their team improved so much over time that it has made the higher divisions a chicken yard.

I'm just curious, maybe I got the wrong impression, but unless you can watch your matches there as you can watch them here, how do you come to the conclusion that weaker teams there beat stronger teams because of better tactics as opposed to randomness? How rudimentary is the engine there in comparison to what Sokker produces? Is it more similar to HT? A few calculations that take into account the variables you control and that's all? The way you're conveying that seems to be it, and despite how much easier it is to work with that basic system to produce unquestionable results, it lacks sophistication in the pursuit of which it's a lot more difficult to get everything to make sense to managers as it would elsewhere where you can't see anything and is based on a few calculations.

If you need to slate PM you ought to try the game if you want to give your post the requisite credibility

Personally I don't find the game engine in PM embryonic in any way. The match viewer in PManager is a 2D match viewer, which obviously doesn't produce exactly the same reality as Sokker, but still shows in a
intelligible way how the zone rating is calculated.

I couldn't care less about the game, I'm just wandering. It's not about the quality of the visual produced but about what distinguishes PM from Sokker in terms of randomness, referring to weaker teams beating stronger teams.

Why would you care to write in this thread if you don't care about the content of it.
2006-06-14 14:10:23
Because a bunch of you are blatantly saying that that game is a lot better than Sokker and naturally I wander why. Too lazy to go and sign up for it and check for myself though :). Maybe if I'm persuaded I would.

Take it as it bugs me to see something like this in the game's own forum, and although I'm not interested, I certainly would like to respond. Why won't you answer my question?

I do believe I have explained some of it. Thus it's hard to give a exact answer due to the fact that the game is so complex.

In pm a user can exactly know how the match engine works. The ADM's wrote a post sometime ago explaining it, so you can know when you win or lose because of your tactics.

There isn't Slovakia ? worst manager I have ever seen :D
2006-06-14 23:12:04
I will join Slovenia :D
2006-06-15 00:27:18
Hehe actually Slovakia will be added tomorrow (June the 16th) - so if you can wait until then, you're able to have a team in Slovakia.
2006-06-15 16:40:14
really ? :D can I delete my account :D
2006-06-15 18:23:23
Sure - but then you've to wait for 30 days ;o)

Actually if you look at the Office and go to the 2nd page you're able to see the news concerning the new leagues.

"As we told a few days ago, the change we''ve made on schedules would allow us to expand some PM nations but also to create new ones.
We are pleased to announce that we''ll soon add 6 new countries to our world. All of them will start with 2 divisions only (50 teams). Here they are:
Ireland
Slovakia
Malta
Iceland
Faroe Islands
New Zealand

If you are based on one of these 6 countries you''ll be allowed to change to your home country. However you''ll have to start with a new team. To confirm the change you just have to visit this page: http://s1.pmanager.org/league_change.asp | http://s2.pmanager.org/league_change.asp (depending on your current server), chose the country and set your new team name (it can be the current name you''re using). You have until the 16th of this month to confirm the change. The leagues will be created most likely on the next day."
