I didn't want to make a discussion about karlović, I just wanted to say my opinion

People from Hrvatska usually know how to serve.
Federer is very, very good on his returns though. Nice reflexes and not easy to serve an ace against him.
6 aces are maximum I would say.

Btw didn't he beat the world record recently in Paris with 55 aces and still lost?
How can you lose a tennis match with 55 aces? :)

good question... but for me is more interesting how karlovic can winn without ~50 aces ;)))

@fjodor1: doesn't happen a lot I guess, luckily he doesn't have to think of something with all these aces :P

@loop: last time Karlovic was in such a strong form at Wimbledon was in 2004, when Federer and Karlovic clashed in the fourth round, and Federer was also having enormous troubles with his serve back then, so I'm guessing more than 6 aces. It ended 6-3, 7-6, 7-6, but I guess it's going to be more troublesome than in that year. Federer's return is great indeed, and he will need it. If Federer is able to use his slice backhand return and get it to Karlovic' feet, then it will be ok :)

If karlović wins a set against federer, it will be in tie-break

True. :)

I hope it is, I don't like boring tennis matches :)

Me too, it's fascinating that someone is able to serve that great, but it's in the same time so boring to watch. And Karlovic doesn't have such an interesting story as Ivanisevic had in 2001, so let's hope it's over tomorrow ;P

I have just looked up, Federers last match against Karlovic was 2008 when he lost against him.
Karlovic had 22 aces and Federer six.
This was when ill Federer finally lost his number 1 position to Nadal.
He is now healthy and in form so can hopefully turn it around now to get back his number 1 position.

still 6 aces is way to little... :)

Don't like Karlović very much, but I'm pretty sure he wil make much more than those 6 aces you said :)

Yep, most likely.
The number will depend on the sets count as well, but most likely around 15 or so?
We will see! :)

really boring, i must say, but still much more interesting than women's tennis. even when williams, sharapova etc. are playing naked... terrible :((((

Women's tennis should be renamed "Who can make the loudest grunt". Sharapova sounds like she's giving birth with every shot
2009-06-30 18:28:49
It's completely laughable that someone is able to enter the semi-finals with 15 double faults, and a difference in winners/unforced errors of -15. Absolutely ridiculous that level of tennis. A couple of years ago it was not that bad though, with both of the Belgian girls, Sharapova and the Williams sisters on their highest level.
2009-06-30 18:34:09
Safina is not bad either ;)

I like the way Mauresmo plays, there's much more variation in her gameplay, she plays an interesting tennis. But it's one of the rare exception... Sharapova, Safina, the Williams Sis' only hit the ball as hard as they can. That's boring, hardly viewable, and the shouts are really annoying...
