It's quite simple to me. Everyday people die. Important people too.
If for example the doctor would have saved him but would die doing that, nobody would say a thing about that doctor. He would be enormous important, wouldn't he? Because he just saved the life of the guy you make a fuss about now. But when that would have happened, there would certainly not have been a topic with RIP doctor... Had he 'less' influence?
What is influence on the people? Mass media?
The world and the people are only what you make of them.
The heroes in the world are those that you call hero.
I think the real heroes are in front of us every day. Poor people still willing to share the few things they have, that is heroism.

Seriously though, I can understand you find him a hero, but DON'T say to me what to think. I have my own opinion, and as long as democracy lives, it's legal too. When 1984-things kick in, I will be one of the people dying trying to escape. I would be the one trying to escape the system in The Matrix.
