Luuut – I know that because our fires are never left alone and a priest always ensures that the fire is never extinguished.

Krunoslav – My bad. There were 5 conditions:

1. A description of the Zoroastrian religion to the Jadhav Rana (he was the King who gave us refuge) by the Priest who had accompanied the fleeing Zoroastrians.
2. The adoption of the language "Gujarati" as their mother tongue.
3. The adoption of the garment "sari" by Zoroastrian women.
4. That Zoroastrian wedding processions be held in the dark.
5. The surrender of all weapons.

Laufer – I guess if u googled the words “Zoroastrian” or “Parsee / Parsi” as we are more commonly known. Interestingly enough there are quite a few Zoroastrians settled in Canada, especially in Toronto. There is a very good & very detailed book called “A Zoroastrian Tapestry”. I don’t know if it’s available in all libraries as I think only limited copies were sold. I remember watching a video as a child called “On Wings of Fire”.

You'll might also be interested to know that in our funerals, before we actually take the body to the towers of silence, we walk a dog around the body. If the person is truly dead, the dog walks with his tail between his legs, with his head down and appears very sad. But if the person is alive, the dog will bark. This was very helpful in the old days when science wasn't as evolved as it is now. The last time a dog actually barked in such a situation is over 50 yrs. ago. Interestingly enough, when people have tried to make videos to enact this, the dog would always bark as a real actor was dressed up as the corpse.

I guess when I would be a priest and let such a fire accidentally go out, I would ignite a new fire and say nothing:P
