Well in my case it was simple. Right after a clean installation I started Firefox and went to a web page which had Flash content (like www.sokker.org) and a dialog box appeared. It offered for Flash add-ons (I think last time there was 3) and I chose one random, Firefox installed it and finish. Everything working just fine. As Ubuntus are alike, I don't see why you should have any more difficulties.

Although I remember I didn't install Adobe's version (if it even offered one?). If current add-on isn't working for you, then remove it and try another one. You need A flash player not defintely Adobe flash player. Even the version number isn't that important, Sokker will be a little upset, but nothing it can't handle. :D

Do you have Firefox 2?
2009-07-10 20:45:54
In my current laptop with Win 7 I have FF 3.5 :D
Still if I remember correctly my last Ubuntu installation had FF 3.something, so there shouldn't be differences and I think it worked with FF2 also, cause I used mainly Ubuntu 1,5 years ago.

On Windows auto-installing plugins in FF3 doesn't work while it did in FF2 (or it must be my computer).

I think it did work under Ubuntu.
In Windows I have noticed it also, maybe it's somehow related to UAC (haven't bothered to investigate), can't remember XP anymore :P

Well, on Monday Win 7 RTM hopefully comes public so I'll try to remember checking it out after clean installation.

It's always about advantages and disadvantages...
If video-games are the only thing that matters to you then you should stay away from ubuntu...
in ubuntu you can play other kind of games... ;P

thanks virus ;)

Or you forgot to include: "I've tried Ubuntu, but it sucked" ;)
2009-07-13 23:19:52
Ok, poll changed.

Anyway what's wrong with ubuntu? Do you preffer pay money to Microsoft?

Ubuntu is just like any other Linux distribution, it's great for computer freaks and every informatics student should be working with Linux, but for the average user it's impractical as most programs are not compatible with Linux and for the average user it's a pain in the arse to set up.

I consider myself as an above average computer user, but still I had big problems setting up Ubuntu. Most people don't want to set up their OS system at all.

i use only ubuntu

most programs are not compatible with Linux

lol
most PC programs are not compatible with ubuntu
like most ubuntu programs are not compatible with windows :)

and for the average user it's a pain in the arse to set up.

ubunt is far more easier to install than windows
all programs and drivers are in most cases already installed

so it's perfect for beginners
don't install it if you use your pc for videogames

it uses a different logic but it's not more difficult, just different

I consider myself as an above average computer user
you're definitely not an above average user if you're not able to set up ubuntu ;)

Most people don't want to set up their OS system at all
you' don't install drivers on windows?

i'd say that most people don't need another OS
if they think that windows is good they should keep windows
but it doesn't mean it's better/worse

1st- I want to start any sokker match and any of them don't run because the load stop when he is loading sound :(

you probably need to install flash player
there are 3 ways for install an application in ubuntu:

1. download the .deb (like .exe for win) from adobe website and install it
2. go to system -> administration -> synaptic
search for Ubuntu restricted extras and install it
3. since most people thinks that linux is for geeks you can use the terminal + keyboard (geeks don't use the mouse :P) but try the method 1 or 2 first ;)

You can argue what you want, but I'm talking from my own experience and I definitely experienced a lot of hassle when setting up my Ubuntu and I could never manage to use the wireless network card.

And it's true that most Windows (Ubuntu works on a pc and if not than that must be why I experienced these problems) programs are imcompatible with Linux and v.v., but thing is that most people are used with Windows software and not Linux software. That's a big advantage from Microsoft's point of view.

You must be kidding when you say all drivers are already installed for Ubuntu, cause for my wireless network card, for example, I had to manually insert digits I found on the web in a certain box.

And I do never experience problems installing drivers under Windows. Just insert the hardware and press on OK a couple of times.

And I'm neither saying Ubuntu is better or worse, but when I said it sucked I was talking from my own experience.

Ubuntu is great for the people who are using it and one day we will maybe have a free operating system for everyone.
