Subject: ubuntu
You can argue what you want, but I'm talking from my own experience and I definitely experienced a lot of hassle when setting up my Ubuntu and I could never manage to use the wireless network card.
And it's true that most Windows (Ubuntu works on a pc and if not than that must be why I experienced these problems) programs are imcompatible with Linux and v.v., but thing is that most people are used with Windows software and not Linux software. That's a big advantage from Microsoft's point of view.
You must be kidding when you say all drivers are already installed for Ubuntu, cause for my wireless network card, for example, I had to manually insert digits I found on the web in a certain box.
And I do never experience problems installing drivers under Windows. Just insert the hardware and press on OK a couple of times.
And I'm neither saying Ubuntu is better or worse, but when I said it sucked I was talking from my own experience.
Ubuntu is great for the people who are using it and one day we will maybe have a free operating system for everyone.

well, i use linux mint, which imho is superior to ubuntu. everything worked from scratch: nvidia card, wireless, etc. another distro i use is sabayon, which has a better wine implementation and installs restricted drivers right from the start.
1st- I want to start any sokker match and any of them don't run because the load stop when he is loading sound :(
you probably need to install flash player
I fixed it. As windows culture, I have format my note book again and I have installed again ubuntu. Then I have load the flashplugin-nonfree and this time it become to work. And before I couldnt edit my tactics so I had a great problem I have solved.
The problem now born on the videogames, I have to install windows...

then, why it is superior to ubuntu? What are the advantages?

you will have problems with ALL os if you're installing them for the first time
the fact that your pc comes with a windows doesn't mean that you don't have to set it up, is just that somebody else already installed it for you
you can buy a brend new Dell pc with Ubuntu...ready to use
You must be kidding when you say all drivers are already installed for Ubuntu
didn't say that
i said in most cases

neither i'm saying that is the best os
but it definitely doesn't suck
you're not able to use it or maybe it doesn't suit your needs, but it doesn't suck

definitely
linux is not for videogames
maybe some of them will work with Wine

I've installed Windows many times and honestly, it's pretty straightforward.
And of course Linux does not suck, but the average computer user who is totally into Windows and tried Ubuntu but couldn't get it working would answer in such a poll "I tried but it sucked".

ofcourse it is
you are used to windows and you already know what to do :)
that's one of the problems of windows: you have to reinstall it from time to time :))
but whatever...i understand your point, i just wanted to clarify some things

It's explained step by step what you have to do;) That's what I mean with straightforward.
Yes.
Difference between Windows and Ubuntu is that at the end Windows shows some pop-ups and you have to press on OK and some other screens are flashing and hiding again. After that a couple of reboots and you're ready.
In Ubuntu your wireless network card, printer and scanner don't work, when you're finished. You have to search the internet for some parameters you have to enter manually.

I have a DELL and I have wireless conection. I have to see if my HP printer-scaner works to but I think it will
My laptop worked fine with ubuntu without any configuration needed.
and if the hardware isn't very old it usually won't need to install drivers.
i don't use ubuntu because i want to be alternative i use it because it's a lot better than windowz :)

no, in ubuntu everything should work (wireless, printer, scanner) if it's supported
you don't have to reboot or install drivers
the problem is that not every hardware is supported by ubuntu, in this case you'll have to install it manualy
so, the only difference is in hardware support (specially new hardware)
if the hardware is supported everithing will work right after the installation of the OS
if you want you hardware to work "out of the box" you have to check if it's supported befere you buy it
example 1
if you install a bluetooth adapter on windows, you'll have to install drivers+ software
in ubuntu you just plug the adapter in you usb port
example2
you have to install a brand new scanner which is not supperted directly by ubuntu yet?
in windows you'll install drivers + software
in ubuntu, you'll have to do some geek stuff to make it work
so ubuntu can be more difficult until you don't know how it works
but it can also be far more easy
and again it depends on you :)

ubuntu does not support some hardware and you have to search for drivers (which can be found easily cause it has a great support foroum ubuntu.org ) but windows does not support any hardware and you have to install drivers for every hardware after every format (which happends often :P )

yep but sometimes if the hardware is not directly supported you'll have to work with the terminal to send some text commands (copy&paste)
a lot of users are scared of using their keyboard
