I'll try to give a precise description of what I see. Maybe that might help to find the location.

The picture shows a gate or entrance in a wall. The wall is not particular high or thick and there's no room for soldiers to patrol on it. The wall doesn't look very strong. This implies that the wall was not build as a protection against a siege. Maybe it was build as an obstacle or to prevent mobs from reaching certain area's in the city. Another possibility is that the wall is purely ornamental or for prestige however in the first scenario we would expect the wall to be more decorated and in the later a bigger wall.

The sky is blue and the threes are dark green. This makes me think it was summer when the picture was taken. If it would have been spring the colour of the threes would probably more bright. This is very important because when it's true that it's summer then it's improbable that the picture was taken in an arid climate. The threes look healthy and too me it doesn't look too hot cause the people on the picture are wearing normal pants.

At both sides of the gate there is a 'pole' with various ornaments; there are two torches and there's a circle with two women inside of them. It's unclear what they are doing. Between the torches, below the circle, there are texts, probably not the same texts on both sides as it appears they are aligned differently. On the right side of the gate there's a (memorial) plaque. It possibly tells something about when the wall was build or why or who laid the first stone.

Above the entrance there are ornaments which reminds me to laurel wreaths. This might mean that the structure was build by the Romans or French.

In the area behind the gate there are several people walking around. Maybe this is some kind of open-air museum. The leverage at the entrance indicates that cars or bikes are banned from the area behind the gates.

The good state of the structure is a striking characteristic.

I think that the picture is taken somewhere in Europe and not in the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Britain, Ireland, Poland (or anything eastern of Poland), Portugal, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Slowakia (or anything southern of these countries).

Most likely candidates are, in my opinion, Germany, Czech Republic, Denmark, northern France and Belgium.

Père Lachaise Cemetery

"Père Lachaise Cemetery (French: Cimetière du Père-Lachaise; officially, cimetière de l'Est, "East Cemetery") is the largest cemetery in the city of Paris, France at (48 ha, 118.6 acres), though there are larger cemeteries in the city's suburbs.

Père Lachaise is one of the most famous cemeteries in the world. Located in the 20th arrondissement, it is reputed to be the world's most-visited cemetery, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually to the graves of those who have enhanced French life over the past 200 years. It is also the site of three World War I memorials."

Let's turn this topic into a game. I'm very interested in all cool places in the world. Nature parks, famous structures, ... I know a lot of places in North-America, but I don't know much about the rest of the world, not even Europe...

I'll start off with an easy one:
