Subject: Places in the World - Where is it?

2009-12-08 11:44:18
Where's this?
2009-12-08 12:53:20
Hmm, either somewhere in North-Africa or the Arabian peninsula...
2009-12-08 13:11:59
Arabian peninsula is correct.
2009-12-08 13:20:50
This looks like Yemen or Oman... :)
2009-12-08 13:58:37
Oman is right as well :) What city is it?
2009-12-08 14:25:40
Most likely the Capital city Muscat.

I'll take it. In fact it's Muttrah - the harbor city of Muscat. The capital of Oman is like a conglomerate of cities. Muscat itself is rather small with the sultan's palace being the only exiting thing. Muttrah has the corniche and the souq, while Ruwi is the commercial centre. Not the most interesting city in the world, but the surroundings are really nice (Nizwa, Jebel Shams, Wadi Ghul, Wahiba Sands, Sur, Raz al-Jinz etc.). When I was there, I was told that the sultan has decided that all the houses in the capital must be white - don't know if it's true, but a funny story indeed.

Your turn. :)

It is indeed... :)

The pillar—almost seven meters (22 feet) high and weighing more than six tons—is said to have been fashioned at the time of Chandragupta II Vikramaditya (375–413) The pillar is 98% pure wrought iron, and is a testament to the high level of skill achieved by ancient Indian ironsmiths. It has attracted the attention of both archaeologists and metallurgists, as it has withstood corrosion for over 1600 years in the open air.
