North as in Sweden/Finland (cold countries) or south europe as in Spain/Greece (warmer countries)

I suppose it is. It's not in use anymore and according to wikipedia it's possible to get guided tours around the place.
No, but Luleå is very close. It's like the second-closest town I guess.
