looks really similar, but I guess it's baked in an oven, right? Something like calzone from Italy? :)
In Italy is not so easy to find a food which is widespread everywhere... (apart from Pizza :P)
Nor only each region, but even each city has his own specialties...
ie here where I live (Brianza, the countryside near Milan) the typical food is represent by "cassoeula",
A dish full of every part of the pork, once eaten, you don't need to eat anymore for days... :D
Here you can find the recipe
A pot of goodness
The cassoeula is a famous dish of the typical cuisine of Lombardy, quite complex and not suitable for those who on a diet. Suitable for those who want to taste strong flavours, forgetting about calories. The basic ingredients of cassoeula are cabbage, picked after the first frost in winter which makes them more tender and parts of the pig as legs and skin, ribs, head, sausages. The recipes of Lombardy of the cassoeula are different depending on cities and areas. In Como, for example, instead of the pig legs the pig's head is used, in the province of Pavia using only the ribs, in the area from Lomellina to Varesotto it is called ragò and prefers the goose flesh. You can add spices and a glass of white wine. More recently it has replaced butter with extra virgin olive oil, to save on fat. It’s obvious that this is a unique dish, which can save calories if the only meat used is the shin.
Ingredients and traditions
If cassoeula dates back to 1900, its more ancient origin goes back on the one hand, to the tradition of Saint Anthony Abbot, January 17, the day marking the end of the slaughtering of pigs, so the cuts of meat used were the poorest and served to give flavour to the cabbage, inevitable ingredient of the cuisine of Lombardy. The rich tradition, however, makes use of several types of meat. The story summarized the custom in the following ingredients: cabbage, pork ribs rind, Verzino (sausage from cabbage) or sausage, pig feet, ears, nose and tail of pork, carrots and celery, onion, butter, a cup dry white wine meat broth and
pepper. Not all elements are required!

we have different types of "calzone"...
However seeing the photo "calzone" is bigger than those "empanadillas"...
They're more similar to our "Panzerotto"...
Are they fried or cooked in the oven?

the typical empanada is cooked. i ate calzone and i think its different, because the empanada have a thin thickness apart from the ingredients
In Argentina empanadas can be of meat: filled with a preparation of grind or cuted with knife meat(dependind the region, north of the country are originally cuted) with onions, green olives, boiled eggs, black raisins) in some regions can be sweetend with sugar, can be also be made of ham and cheese or cheese and onions, or humita(filling of white sauce with onions and corn grind and mixed into the sauce, but some places make it with the corn grain they do't grind them), can be also of tuna fish, or vegetables(spinach with white sauce), can be caprese(filled with tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and basil) or chicken ones. And they can be fried or baked(meat ones the others are baked), depending the region.
They can be filled with many things you just have to be creative, the original is the meat empanada and humita(I think), but then pizza places started to make the ham and cheese one (kind of a calzone, but smaller) and then with food deliveries started to try new things to have more variety.
We also eat empanada galega, but our's it's more like a tart than and empanada. and has paprika and pepper, that original empanada galega, apparently, doesn't have. We fatay or empanada arabe(arabic empanada), or similars, I had a friend of armenian originswe I was a kid, and they used to make armenian empanadas are very similar to fatay(meat cooked with lemon), they were really tasty, we are an immigration country there's almost every type.
