Subject: H1N1/Pneumonic Plague, Ukraine?!

It's all bullshit!
Every year thousands and thousands of people die becouse of flu. This one isn't different from the others!!!
2009-11-02 11:45:18
That is not correct.

1. This strain of flu is more prone to complications. Thousands of people still die from flu, but now they die in the developed world too and not only in poor countries who lack proper medical care.

2. This flu - and if we're still discussing the Swine/Mexican strand - got to travel faster and quicker to many places around the world due to improving transportation methods, so it's harder to contain and restrain it.

3. There is a little media hype accompanied by our exposure to more stories and sensationalistic reporters so there is a little truth in in thinking that it is just like the previous flu epidemics, but only a little. It IS a stronger and nastier strain.

there's already a vaccine being distributed in australia. there should also be vaccines in europe

Funny thing is that it's not deadlier than any other flu. In the Netherlands the mortality is 0,11%. Mortality of normal flu is between 0,03% and 0,25%. Worldwide, mortality is 0,75%. The reason that that it's higher is because more people are living in less developed countries. I don't have any numbers, but I'd suppose that this percentage is also in the normal range.

The reason why the WHO (World Health Organisation) is concerned is because during pandemics viruses may increase in aggression, causing mortality rates to go up.

And to come back to your question as why the government isn't doing anything. In the Netherlands the Governmental Institute for National Health and Environment (RIVM in Dutch) considers this flu to be a regular flu and therefore only old, unhealthy and medical people are vaccinated.

When the flu was still a mexican and american problem there were news about the H1N1, I guess it is still true:
- H1N1 is special, because it does not only cause death with old people but there were also young and healthy people under the victims. Usually flu is often "a last drop" and kills people that struggle with health anyway.
I think the reason why in NL the mortality rate is "normal" is because now people do react faster and do not just "ignore" the flu like they usually do, so they get better and earlier care of doctors and this lets mortality rate drop. I personally also never go to doctors because of flu, but now I would probably go.

- H1N1 spreads faster than other viruses usually do
- There were other viruses that did look similar than this type of virus, one of this viruses did kill millions of people ("spanish flu")

Yes, the problem is that the virus can and will still develop further and it is possible that this causes mortality rate to go up.

it is called spanish flu because spain was the first to notificate about that virus, as far as was neutral on WWI :P

so what if people die. we are more than 6 mlrd people. we need to kill at least 1 mlrd .. we overpopulated the earth...

Some leading scientists claim that the vaccine is even more deadly than the flu itself. What do you guys think about it?
2009-11-02 14:57:51
I tihnk I want to know who those scientists are, why they say that, and whether or not they are correct.
2009-11-02 15:11:47
The doctor would say take some rest and stay in bed, something I would do anyway.

Oh really? Take the initiative then, and remove yourself from the planet as a start if this is really your opinion about the world :/

O.O god i hate reading journal articles...

I don´t think is a different H1N1 that the "normal" H1N1.
only now have most "importance" and relevance because now was in Europe... in all America, and specially Argentina and Chile (the same of Juangunner), this flu caused many infected and deaths... the same situation that now in Europe.

anyway, for me, is a simple flu.

in June/July (in the chilean winter), I had H1N1, and is a simple flu, but most strong, only with Tamiflu and 3 days of rest, I cured... and i´m not dead :P

is pure paraphernalia situation about of this H1N1, if you´re a normal person, with a normal health, in 1 week, you´re cured and healthy again.

I don't have any numbers, but I'd suppose that this percentage is also in the normal range.

exactly, in the chilean winter, the stadistics with this H1N1, was most mortality with normals "flu" or others diseases, that this H1N1... and the chilean health system, is the best of latin america (in europe, should be better, and minor mortality too)

It´s not necessary to create unjustified panic

edit: in July, almost all Sokker Chile forum, had H1N1, and i´m sure that all Sokker Chile have the same opinion... is only paraphernalia of the media and press
