Today 1000 children below 3 years old died because a simple lack of food... Time to do something for that instead of becoming emotional with the dead of a "well-known" person.

As lame as it sounds from me, I totally agree with you.

Of course R.I.P

R.I.P. Enke

I see it differently. Just because we are always sad when we hear about children dieing from hunger, does not mean that we cannot also be sad if someone else died. I am sad for both things and I don't see why only the number should moderate our amouth of sadness. Sadness is an emotion after all and not rational :)

rest in peace Enke. I hope you found what you were looking for by ending your life.

"One death is a tragedy, a million is a statistics" plus we do not care about third world. Bad, maybe? Imho pure logic.

I read an article about something called "monkeysphere", means that depending of the size of the ape brain, there is a limited amount of people (or ape people) you actually care.

Small monkeys care about other 3 or 4, which make sense since they live in a small community. The Gorillas are one of the apes that care about 11-14 other apes.

That study stated that humans can care of about 120 other humans top. Whenever a human gets into that circle, another human goes out and you stop caring about him.

And at some point it makes sense, When your girlfriend brakes her ACL you get really worried, but at the same moment 1000 of kids are dieing in Africa, and you just simple don't give a damn (eventually you noticed that in the TV and you get an NGO feeling, but then you forget).

Monkeysphere people, think about it!!!!

RIP

Concerning Enke, he commit suicide, which at my point of view, is a very cowardly attitude. You destroy your parents, wife and kids, they have the feeling that in part it was their fault. Adding that is just giving up and not facing your problems. Again, my point of view is quite biased since I am very happy with my life, and who knows what it was happening to him.

The point is that I couldn't care less about Robert Enke, but definitely more about those thousands of people starving in Africa, just because they are reduced to statistics.

Isn't it as ignorant to not care about this one or the thousands other ones?
2009-11-12 02:38:20
It has nothing to do with ignorance.

I don't know this person. He committed suicide (which of course is very sad). But those people in Africa are all dying in Africa because they are dying because we either abuse them or because we don't help them while we can. And of course this is simplistic, but a lot those people could live long and happy lives if we would decide on a global scale to do something.
