Subject: Robert Enke RIP

It has nothing to do with ignorance.

I don't know this person. He committed suicide (which of course is very sad). But those people in Africa are all dying in Africa because they are dying because we either abuse them or because we don't help them while we can. And of course this is simplistic, but a lot those people could live long and happy lives if we would decide on a global scale to do something.

So youre saying you know those starving children? Btw, hurry up, you could be booking tickets to ethopia or looking up where to send your money to help them!

That's about personal relationship. That has nothing to do with general empathy. If someone on the street gets hit by a car and you see it. Then you have a reflex to feel sorry for him and help him, although you do not know him and so he is not in your "monkeysphere" (I really hate to take reference to such non-psychological terms). It is normal to feel for people we do not know, it is human.

For me it is not human to not feel for this one person, even if rationally you would say "children in africa are much more important". For me it is NOT a competition between Enke and children in africa and everyone that tries to make it that way is just missing the point here. It is ok if you do not feel anything about the death of Enke, but you all have no right to come in here and bully the ones around that do. so langhe, luut and you others make your own topic about children in africa if you want to talk about that.

I have not said that and I have clearly stated otherwise.

I definitely agree with you and personally I wouldn't start this discussion, but on the other side I still feel that way and I wouldn't be surprised if you feel the same (even though you may not circumvent it).

Well he had depression. People who think that depression is just "be sad" are wrong. Depression is illness like schizophrenia or manic depressive disorder and needs to be cured medicaly.

No, because depression afects your brain, chemically. It means your body (not only your brain as you think) ask to stay in bed.
At the contrary, if your are sad just your mind think "oh... what a pity!"
