Subject: President of Europe
Just think about it: what has more chance in the politics and economy against China and the USA: the European countries one by one, or the EU together?
It's a sure thing that it's good for Europe.
The EU needed a leading person to whom the rest of the world could speak to. Until now, leaders of the rest of the world never knew who to adress to; Barroso, Merkel, Blair and some other names.
I hope that things will be more centralized now.
But i don't say Van Rompuy was the best choice. :) Let's see within a few years wether it was a success or not..

I don´t like the idea of giving too much power to a single person, it´s too risky in my opinion.

That's called indirect voting. You vote for the members of parliament, they choose the president.
In the same in the Netherlands, members of parliament will decide who'll become minister president.
