That's called indirect voting. You vote for the members of parliament, they choose the president.

In the same in the Netherlands, members of parliament will decide who'll become minister president.

I dont like EU´s direction. Its becoming be more and more similiar to Austria-Hungary, EU bueraucracy is becoming more and more alien than national governments while taking more and more its compentences. But direct voting president and foreign minister would be more problematic, at least now. Every country would try nominate its representatives, if there would be candidate from small country againist one from big country this one would have not chance because voting would be only for or againist well known candidate (for example Tony Blair). You cant want for European people follow domestic politics and getting all informations. Making something with that is long marathon with unsure results (IMHO its impossible, but some europhiles have different opinion), EU bueraucracy is far away from people but direct voting is not solution. (un)Fortunately current EU president and foreign minister are more as figureheads than some who would participate in political progress, their job would be something as press secretary in company. For anything else they would realy need some mandate from voters. But again, here is problem which I have tried foreshadow.

I've never ever heard about a plan like that... so I'd say the writer of that information is stupid, drunk, both, or James Bond and knows things that nobody else...

I translated the rest of that site. They also mentioned a new law that would eropean votes required to be done in the blood of a kitten, a montly sacrifice of a hot virgin for each administrator, a taxraise so all export would become impossible, a taxraise on cheap import for good measure and the requirement to financially support a farmer on the other side of the union.

I think that summed it all up.
