no, i have no problem that no austrian has won something. we had a starter in the first 10, who had chances. i'm more upset that the competition was that awful to watch. biathlon can be a great sport to watch, but that was just boring.
i know that it is an outdoor sport, i know that this is a part of the game. but unlike ski jumping or alpine skiiing, where you cannot avoid this factor of luck, it would be possible in all those cross country competitions. it's called mass start, it is already a common thing in those sports and, btw, far more interesting to watch.
only downside is the number of competitors. but i'd prefer a mass start with 30 athletes, with fair chances, to 90 starters, if only 10 lucky ones have a chance to win something.
in this case it is even worse, since the persuit is also limited to 6-10 medal candidates already and that's just sad at the olympics :o(

Well, i agree with you that it was kinda boring to watch and less entertaining as usual. The consequences for the pursuit race are really annoying too.
However, the sprint is a different kind of race in biathlon which i find important and limiting it to only 30 starters and performing a mass start doesn't seem the right solution to me.
A mass start has different dynamics due to athletes being able to invest less power on the track by using slipstream of faster competitors. Also the mental factor at the shooting range would be very different.
In the sprint race everyone can concentrate on "his own race" not being in a psychological duel at any time.

Gratz Igaunija.
Just less than two days and than will be a men hockey, yeah!!!
I hope Latvia will get some medal, our biggest chance is M.Dukurs on skeleton.

Hockey is one of my favorite sports to watch during the olympics but it´s just sad to think about it. All our neigbourgh countries are good at it(Finland, Sweden,Russia,Latvija) and we just suck and hard time.
Nah, we still have Luxemburg ;-)
Mass start is almost impossible in biathlon with 90 athletes - there simply aren't enough space for them to shoot... and it would be really unfair to restrict the number of the starters.
The snowboard cross for men today was awesome. I usually don't care about it... but this race was exciting.
