Oh, please. We're in 2010. It would be perfeclty possible to build the piste without those pillars or in a different way.
I mean, going out of the piste at 140 Km/h doesn't leave many chances to survive even in the most safety one of the world. But only a maniac could make a project with several pillars outside the most dangerous turn of the piste.

It was on a part of the track no 1 went out before. Parts of the track they can fly out are protected by overhanging walls so they always stay inside the track.
But they are vulnerable on that little sledge, and it is a dangerous track for Luge, they all know that. It's not curling .. The only way to make this extreem sport save is to ban it, if not, there is always a change someone dies.
