Has anybody tried any of the many guides being touted on the net? Any success?

Or do I just go ahead buy my third 360..?

Send it to Microsoft and they will repair it, why in the world would you buy new one when they fix it for free, warranty is 3 years

warranty is not always 3 years. I have 2 years warranty (in Netherlands). I have the same red rings problem, it simply doesn't do anything anymore. Sending it to Microsoft will cost me big bucks. It may be cheaper to buy a new one :-P

You tried kicking it? It usually helped me when I had problems with pc/tv. Might work with consoles as well.

It is always 3 years from Microsoft and store gives 1 or 2 years depending on where you buy.

If store warranty is still on then take it to them, if it ended then call MS support and they will explain what to do, it is not expensive, you dont send it to USA ffs :P

Just register on xbox.com, enter your console serial number and it will show you remaining warranty time, then click request repair...

You're welcome ;)

Top tip. I shall investigate. I'm sure one of them must be out of warranty, but the other might not be..

Edit:

Even so, has anybody had success using a net guide?

As I thought, 1 expired warranty. The other has 10 days left..

In countries where there is no MS support (BiH :)) repair-guys charge 30-40 euros for red ring of death repair, they open it and re-solder broken connections on GPU and make "x-clamp" so 99% it wont happen again.

Those towel tricks are bs :)

Consoles produced from ~august-september 2008 until today (jasper revision) are very reliable, RROD is past...

yes, that's the problem. They might repair it for free, but it costs a ton of money to send it to them (and that isn't covered by the warranty). And my friend's xbox just 'got lost' somewhere in their repairshow. They're still waiting for it after a year and a half :p
