Subject: who is most famous celebrity in your country?
A polish boy told me that Franco was good, that people have all my hate.
on Polish politics topic, Augusto Pinochet is considered to be a good man :]
Probably, in polonia the classic (extreme) neoliberalism with authoritarianism is good ... an aim as good as to tolerate the torture and murders as way to eliminate thoughts and ideologies of opposition. Well, on tastes there is nothing written :S

Pinochet is the most famous (as Stalin in Russia, or Hitler in Austria, or Mussolini in Italy... is a conflictive subject)
also are famous, Ivan Zamorano, Marcelo Salas, Marcelo "Chino" Rios; actually Fernando Gonzalez... if you´re a metalhead, Tom Araya from Slayer
and if you´re a sokker fanatic and spammer, Blackend
:P
about Poland, days ago, I viewed a good film, "Katyn".

Kuifje ( Tintin ) as fictional figure, or the Smurfs. Charlemagne was born and lived in Belgium when he was young. Jacques Brel is famous too, or the muscles from Brussels ;-) Most famous scientist is probably Vesalius ( or maybe Mercator ). Best sportsman: no doubt, it's Eddy Merckx. But most famous Belgian is probably Father Damien, who was elected as Greatest Belgian of all-time.
Did Charlemagne speak french of german btw?
Neither of them, as he was born in 8th century. The Franks were a Germanic people, but in fact I don't know what they spoke, but does it matter?
No, I was just curious.
probably some old germanic dialect then.

I searched for it: they spoke Frankish, a Germanic language. It was spoken even in Paris ( as minority language ), but throughout the tenth century, the Frankish 'disappeared' in France, and the Latin-based old-French became the most important language again ( as in the times of the Roman Empire ).
No doubt about that: evryone who has a bike knows Eddy Merck!

that's because he was catholic. and you're polish ;)
let's not forget that pinochet was america-backed, especially by the revered Milton Friedman, a criminal in my view.
