Thanks to all .... at least .. the worst thing has happened.... the people have calmed down ... now it is a time to help, to organize and to be repaired.....

if you can help, from your country....do it!!! we have big cities, villages devastated. The reconstruction, relocation will take a lot of time and it also depends on the resources...

well - i normally use :O for open mouth but that is me - either way - the only face i would use in this horrific tragedy is :(

a Turkish scientist makes highly accurate worldwide earthquake predictions observing the satellite pictures and he had predicted that a quake measuring 5.0-6.0 would take place in Chili.

I heard central Turkey is also way overdue for its own megaquake. Does he know anything about that?

he makes his predictions 5 days before the quakes but all the seismic experts expect a large one to take place in the Marmara region in 30 years at most.

On a side note: I'll be in Chile in two months time (Santiago, Valparaiso and north of there), how are things there? Would you still recommend me to go?

sure, no problem at all, only expect a few aftershocks :), but not as powerful as the main quake...

from Santiago to the north life is almost back to normal...

Apparently, the chilean earthquake has shifted the earth's axis, and has made days shorter, by 1.67 microseconds (1 microsecond is 1 millionth of a second)
