Subject: Travel by Interrail

Hitchhiking is a historically common practice worldwide, and hence there are very few places in the world where laws exist to restrict it. However, a minority of countries have laws that restrict hitchhiking at certain locations.[1] In the United States, for example, some local governments have laws to outlaw hitchhiking, with safety being the primary concern. In 1946, New Jersey arrested and imprisoned a hitchhiker leading to intervention by ACLU.[2] In Canada, several highways have restrictions on hitchhiking, particularly in British Columbia and the 400-series highways in Ontario. In all countries in Europe it is legal to hitchhike, and in some places even encouraged. However it is illegal to hitchhike where pedestrians are banned, such as motorways (United Kingdom), Interstates (United States), or the Autobahn (Germany).

So as Vilpu said, catch a car at the gas station

I quote:

Germany is a member state of the European Union as well as the Schengen Agreement. It is a great country for hitchhiking, both on motorways (via on-ramps, service stations, more seldom - parking lots) and local roads.

Not just this website, but also from my own experience I know it's not forbidden in Germany. Last year my brother hitchhiked from Amsterdam to Prague without any problems.

As for Croatia, I can't find any information that it would be forbidden there.

Train is for the weak! Hitchhiking is awesome, of course bit dangerous if you are a woman. I like to talk with new people:) The less money you spend on transport, the more you will have to spend on other things.

I have a feeling I have already asked that question, but how much was the ticket and for how long?

edit: just visited their home page, looks cheap..

btw on their home page there are tickets i.e 10 in 22 days. Does it mean I can use the ticket basically for 10 whole days during the 22 days?

Yes sure, you can use your ticket at 10 days chosen by you in all 22 days :) Im going to buy normal ticket for 22 days.

Ticket is quite cheap and a lot of countries are included to Interrail system so generally you can travel through all Europe ;)

i was in croatia some weeks ago with 2 other friends and we hitchhiked about 6 times without any problems. Most people who stopped for us where croatians... So would be strange if it was against the law.

Anyway Croations are a bit timid but very friendly people... and about all nice girls where these very short shorts... lovely country :)

If you travel through the Netherlands, 1 of the best ways to do this is by train. You can visit a lot of cities that way. Also always good busstations near railwaystations, and often (cheap) hotels in the bigger cities. Public transport in the Netherlands is very good and almost always on time.
