Subject: Do you smoke?

2010-05-10 00:58:33
I love people that smoke! They pay a ridiculous amount of extra taxes plus they die a few years earlier => less pension expenses.
2010-05-10 01:00:22
indeed, its up to them weather they want to smoke/drink/take drugs etc, it should be nobody else's concern.

Exactly :) 'whether', though :P

@Dosphorus
not really, smoking doesn't always shorten one's lifespan. And cancer is mostly about genetics, not smoking.

indeed, winston churchill smoked many cigars a day and lived to a very old age.

my grandpa smoked 1 pack/day and died at 99 yo, last year.

It's not a joke, these are facts. Go on an read about it.
People that are prone to cancer can get a lung cancer even if they didn't had a single cig in their life. And people who are genetically resistant to cancer can smoke pack a day and still get no cancer. In my family there were lots of people smoking in last generation - my dad, mom, aunt, uncle, both grandpas, one grandma and about 10 other people from the latter family. And there was no cancer whatsoever.

Of course I'm not saying that I'm cancer free because of these stats, but I have good chances for it.
2010-05-10 14:13:42
Yeah, but thanks to your family people have died ( smoking indirect influence to other people ).
2010-05-10 14:55:16
I doubt that because almmost everywhere you can't smoke in places like ; bars , clubs , hotels you only can smoke outside and in youre own home , so I can't see how that would damage someone else..

nobody says that smokers always die of lung cancer or non-smokers never do. but terminal diseases are all about chances and though there surely are different basic chances, certain things add some %. e.g. chance for lung cancer rise if you smoke

All of those bans have only come into effect in the last 5 years or so.
2010-05-10 16:30:36
all those bans are ideas of frustrated people. if it really was a problem for non-smoking there were already pubs for non-smokers.
I have the impression that legislators are more pleased to ban rather than regulate.

Never seen one here anyway. The bans make perfect sense, If your willing to engage in a practice that my harm the health of those around you, you shoud have to do it with people willing to accept that risk. This way if people like being in a room full of smoke they can chose to, and those who don't won't have the choice made for them by others

My opinion is that the boss of a cafe/bar should make his own desicion or smoking or non smoking . If you don't like it then go somewhere else. After all the boss took the financil risk etc and should be allowed to decide what he want . But I don't really care because al the cafés/bar around here you can still smoke :D

lol!

don't be silly, dude :]

smoking is responsible for 90% of all lung cancer, 75% of chronic bronchitis and emphysema, 25% of cases of ischaemic heart disease and it's only the tip of the iceberg of all negative consequences

I don't think thats fair. Obviously if given that decision before the ban then they would have all opted to allow smoking. Just because some people are inconsiderate doesn't mean everyone else should suffer.
