Subject: World Cup Predictions

I think everyone has already seen. They also saw Spain lose a 50 game unbeaten streak against the US of all teams
2010-05-27 21:52:09
I never said they didn't.

Spain does not stand a chance against Brazil. Or any "big NT", it's just a mind/attitude thing.

Euro 2008 was no big tournament with big NTs? ;)
2010-05-27 21:59:13
Who did they actually beat?

Russia x2
Sweden
Greece
Italy on penalties
Germany 1-0

Hardly difficult

Also, the World Cup is another thing.
2010-05-27 22:06:25
Ahh, you mean germany will win this cup and they are hardly difficult to beat?! funny one! ;)

I think beating Germany and/or Italy in a World Cup is very, very hard, specially in the knockouts stage. And I don't see Spain doing it. In World Cups big teams(Brazil, Italy, Germany, Argentina, England and France) tend to eliminate between each other. Although that doens't mean a small 1 can't give the surprise, but it's not common.

Well they had the easiest possible team to beat in the final.

Germany would do well to get past the 2nd round. A very ordinary team that now has to cope with losing Ballack and now Träsch, leaving a very untalented midfield even weaker. That said they'll probably get their usual massive slice of luck and/or dodgy refereeing decisions.

Anyway Germany is still Germany, and it can play an awful football, but it'll win most of the matches it'll play.

I think height it's gonna be something that could bother european teams a bit, most of the cities where matches are gonna be held are between 1400 and 1700 meters, it isn't incredible high, but it could be annoying. European teams aren't used to playing at height, or am I wrong?

Untalented midfield? If this midfield (Kroos, Özil, Schweinsteiger, Marin, Khedira) is untalented, who is talented than? Where do you see lost quality if we talk about Träsch (i don't talk about back-up-options!)?

You are correct, but neither are the South Americans. Both Brazil and Argentina lost when they had to play Bolivia (who have their pitch, quite deliberatly, on the top of a small mountain)
2010-05-27 22:41:29
That's why most of them will have their trainingscamps at those heights... ;)

Yea, we got our ass kicked badly :P, but La Paz it's at 3600 meters, it's VERY high, and our players have, throughout several WC qualifications played some experience playing in places like La Paz or Quito and some times have won or tied there. Plus, some players have the experience of playing in places like those for Libertadores. It's not a big advantage but at some point it could help.

Anyway I think most of the games are being played closer to sea level. I think it was part of the agreement South Africa had to make with FIFA.

Probably the one that it'll take the biggest advantage is Southafrica and maybe other african teams.
