austrian singer/songwriter, so mostly unknown outside of austria. basically all her songs fit the description "sad" and are very atmospheric:
Swallow the Sun is awesome, but it doesnt sound sad as bands like Anathema, My Dying Bride and paradise lost (guess what, the top 3 doom metal bands :p)
Then again, if you really want sadness, you need to listen to Funeral Doom. :P

Hmm, one Radiohead submitted by me before, but I forgot about Portishead (every song by them is sad). Just few examples:
