Subject: »Gaza sea convoy incident

Didn't read the topic, but: I think humanitarian help should never be stopped. Doesn't it make sense that when there's a conflict in which you aren't involved that you try to minimize the casualties on both sides? Just like the Red Cross helps the Taliban in Afghanistan in treating the wounded.

They were carrying medical supplies and food to Gaza.....if later it is revealed that the ship was carrying a nuclear bomb, I would still condemn this attack
2010-06-01 02:39:34
lol, and if they carry weapons they will probably shout "we carry weapons!"

i mean seriously.... it can onyl come from a canadian...

As far as I know Israeli government confirmed, that after weapon-checking the supplies they will passed them to Gaza.
There is no problem with supplying Gaza, the problem is with potential threats that come with it...if red cross/crescent were involved/managing the operation it would've been tottally different. You simply can't invade another country's private territorry without being previously accepted!! Imagine Russians sending suddenly 20 ships in Canada's direction, saying that it's just some food, clothes and money for the Russians who live in Canada, but you can't check what they are carrying.

A Canadian man died on the ship, a man that was known as a big humanitarian
2010-06-01 02:44:37
its not israel soldiers to blame, its those who attacked them from simply checking what they are carrying
2010-06-01 02:47:35
It's a real tragedy, doesn't matter what nationality he was. Still, the whole situation was caused entirely by those people on the ships.

I tried to read all those back and forth arguments, all those miss placed faults and most of just made me sad.
It is hard to see reaction like yours It is hard to realize no matter what we do, Israeli hatred wins all arguments.

Lets recap the facts.
1. It was offered to those ship to dock in Israel and pass the supplies to Gaza through land.
2. Israel support Gaza strip regularly, providing them with fuel, gas, food, electricity and all other supplies, this convoy after getting checked would like all times been sent there.
3. The activists didnt agree to pass the aid through land which makes it not about aid and only about provoking an international media interest .
4. The activists said repeatedly they are unharmed there for the IDF wasnt ready for the incident. getting on that boat with paintball riffles and concealed gun, the soldiers were not allowed to shoot live rounds with out an order.
5. When the rope from the helicopter gone down the terrorists on board tied it down to one of the antennas on board, by that they hoped to bring the heli down.
6. The terrorists waited the Israeli soldiers with KNIVES iron bars and chairs. if you think those weapon isnt dangerous talk to the israeli solider who will probably spend his life as a vegetable.
7. Some of the injuries on the Israeli side are from live bullets shot on them from the terrorists on the boat.
8. After one of the soldiers was pushed over the deck resulting a fall of 10 meters high, the soldiers got the permission to use live ammunition. which made it possible to gain control over the ship.

And you still find the way to say it was Israel fault, [b]are you serious??

You are quick to judge Israel and not even glancing at the other side.
1. We have an abducted solider for 4 years, I dont see you ranting your civil rights speech.
2. It is 9 years since the missiles on Israeli soil began and as a civilian in the range of those missile I can tell you it is terrifying.
3. I have 15 seconds when the alarm is sound and until the moment it will land, just think of how fast you have to be each time, think of the constant fear.
4. Like me there are at least 100,000 civilians who live in constant fear. the last thing I want is ships entering, Gaza bringing in more weapons.
5. As long as there is no terror and missiles Palestinians have a good life, ask those who live in west bank.

Israeli stands against terror attacks, and we have to defend our self. I wish we did much more since I am tired of being afraid of dying from a good placed missile or a Great terror bomber.

I am on your side in this case, but tell me one thing because I can't understand it. Why did your soldiers start the action on the international waters? why didn't they wait for them to invade Israeli territory? It was simply stupid...

I have to ask you a legal question.
If your smuggling illegal goods to Canada can I stop you at the airport before you even board your flight and accuse you for trying to smuggle illegal goods to Canada?
It is a rhetorical question and the answer is YES.

I dont have to wait for some one to commit a crime it is enough to show he had confirmed attention to do the crime, It is pointless to wait for a murder to happen and then arrest the murderer.
Stopping the ships at international water was done for a good reason, getting closer to the shore would place the ships close enough to Gaza for Hamas to try and shoot missiles at Israeli soldiers and god knows what that will cause.

Laufer does it really matter if it was closer to Israel? they planned on making a crime is it important where I stop them ? think about it carefully if it will help you go read verdicts from the Canadian supreme court to see I am right .

I guess this part was for me :)
Yes, it actually is important...because you can't do such things on international waters. I mean what would it change for the soldiers/commanders if they waited a couple of minutes till the ships reach Israeli territory? It would've been perfectly understandable then to attack the ships and no one could use the international water territory as an argument against Israel...

The contiguous zone is a band of water extending from the outer edge of the territorial sea to up to 24 nautical miles (44 km) from the baseline, within which a state can exert limited control for the purpose of preventing or punishing "infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws and regulations within its territory or territorial sea"

This should help you :)

Ok, had no idea about this. Thanks for clearing that up. :)

I don't care if it happened on the moon, the issue here is not where it happened......It is the way the Israeli soldiers reacted.....shooting! It was the wrong thing to do....period!

My fear is how will this affect Israeli relations with Turkey and other bordering countries. Was this a spark that could ignite a full out war?
