Subject: Intelligent Political Discussion Thread

If I'm a fire starter in your opinion: I was discussing in a humane way, until some Israeli came, one ( don't remember his name, I'll search for it in a minute ) was even saying Jews are better than the rest of the world, and began to offend other people because they don't have the same opinion.

The problem is allways when there is politics involve there are fights.

I play eRepublik and in Uruguay (where I play) they kill each other over RL politics, but they don't care about what happen in Middle East.

It was never my intention, and I never started a fight ... Why do you think when politics is involved, there are fights? On Belgian forum, there are discussions, because for instance Chuck has a totally different political opinion than me, but ... that is just politics, those discussions.

I deliberately didn't mention names. Actually I think you started well but you've been sucked into this argument and yeah, you've gone a bit far occasionally.

Sorry, but when someone else is insulting me, I won't just leave. That's my character, sorry for that ;-)
And can I know what things you thought were going to far ( can PM me if you want )?

I usually see people discussin politics and they start to get catch on fire. Once I was in a Christmass party and a Argentinian and a Venezuelean started to discuss about Chavez. I have to go out of the room (I finish helping in the kitchen).

I think is mostly because they want to be right.

"The problem is allways when there is politics involve there are fights."

Kind of ironic. Politicians are supposed to be the guys who can discuss things and work them out in a reasonable way. In the end they always end up the same, fighting on sides instead of doing what's right on the whole. These are the people we entrust to make unpopular decisions and sacrifices for the greater good, instead they fight the popular cause to save themselves.

They not only fight, they steal money as well. :D
I always go to political discussions when they're organised here in my university, but never has it gone that far. There are two important rules imo when you talk about politics:
- You never have 'the truth' on your side, neither has the other people. You have an opinion, and I defend mine too, I think for instance liberalism is better than socialism, but that's my opinion, it's certainly not a truth.
- You should always listen to the other, and respect his opinion, if he has arguments of course.
I'm not religious, and I would certainly not take the bible literally ;-) This may sound rude, but I prefer to have one cheek that is hurting and the other person having a cheek hurting as well than to have to cheeks hurting.

It's a tragedy really. Generation after generation of idealistic youths, reduced to greedy self-serving beauraucrats who are too afraid to go back to their ideals. Of course there are some who actually stick to their principles, but they have to suffer the consequences and never get anywhere. It's a broken system

And is afecting every country. I though it was only in South America, but here in Canada they are corrupts as well.
Political discussions in university are different from the ones IRL. You can not go really far there.
But do you mean by fighting really fighting? Cause I've never seen that before in Belgium. That is just ridiculous.

Edit: btw, university = RL ;-) But I know what you mean :p

I didn't mean fighting in the congress or in the middle, but calling another names is as bad as fighting.

I remember seeing on TV congressmen of an Assia country fighting on the congress.

Also in South America before politicians asked the army to do coups of state because the other party was on power.
