both of players are great, but until now, that bulgarian player managed a bigger performance that Dulgheru
Federer definately became mortal now ;) It probably is good for tennis that his dominance now definately has come to an end.
I just hope he will get that one week as no.1 to beat Sampras.. :)
and this isn`t important right now, the only thing that counts is the fact that we have a romanian in the semifinal at Wimbledon
i hope Tecau and Lindstedt will win the Wimbledon Trophy
i hope Tecau and Lindstedt will win the Wimbledon Trophy
me too,but if they beat chela/schawnk,will play in the final with moodie/norman a great double
pot juca si cu cealalta pereche daca vor trece bineinteles de faza semifinalelor, meltzer si neamtul fac si ei o pereche destul de buna iar turneul asta e deschis oricarei surprize :)
No he hasn't Sampras has 286 weeks as no.1 and Federer 285. Federer has beaten him in Grand Slams though.
i didn`t know that
but don`t be worry, i`m sure he will became once more no.1 and beat sampras record

it's all about the juniors. The Brits are being pretty good this week.
I personally think it is silly how numbers do get such a big thing with federer. Of course it may add some suspense to one player dominating a sport for years and years, but still in the end nobody really cares about this 1 week, he has dozens of other records and it is just not possible to get them all and after all he also does not need to get all records to be an incredibly good and successful tennis-player.
Well ofcourse he does. He can't be the best if he doesn't have all the records possible.
;p
;p
This is a big leap for Pironkova and I think it is not accidental. Writes the history of Bulgarian tennis at the moment, even Maleeva competing in the last two years for Switzerland, not made such a thing.
Dyulgeru for me is an unknown tennis player!

Well.. "the best" is always a relative term in time about criteriums.
So firstly you can just change and redefine criteriums: you can say that he is not the best tennis player, because he doesn't have the record of shortest tennis match played. Or because he does not hold the records on sand, or because he doesn't hold the records for slander in professional tennis.
You can define what you want. And that is exactly, what was done with Federer. They (the reporters) actually created cathegories just to show how great he is compared to other players (where people thought their records would last forever) and give suspense where boring matches were.
Secondly you can just expand the "relative" aspect: even if he would be the best tennisplayer, is he the best ballplayer, is he the best sportsman, the best human?
And thirdly it just depends on time. Maybe in 10 years someone will beat most of his records. Nothing lasts forever and tennis and most of our written sports history does not reach far back.
So I hope you don't see this as an offense, but rationally viewed it is just silly with those records. He is/was good. That's enough.

Hey man, it was just my way of saying I agree. :)
He is the best player ever, there's no doubt about that. And I still believe he will return as the ATP no.1 in the future, and get the record, no matter whether anyone cares about it or not. But of course it is good to have records, that's something where to aim for the athletes. For instance in men's 100m, it is a huge deal if you set a new WR. And I bet Roger himself was stunned when he became the player with most grand slam titles. That would just be one record among the others, but they're always nice to have.. :)

for you is an unknown player and also for us Pironkova is a mistery, i never heard about her until now, great performance of her though
but you have to know that Dulgheru won 2 times Warsaw Open when she was only 19 and also this year, by beating former world #5 Daniela Hantuchová in semi`s and Alona Bondarenko in the final, former world #8 in 2009 and also great names like Dinara Safina world nr.3, Na Li nr. 12, Disela Gulko and Flavia Pennetta
and i forgot to mention that she won over your bulgarian player, Pironkova this year
