I'm looking forward to stage number 3! Seems to be interesting. I didn't follow cycling this year as much as the past years, does anyone know what the favourites said about the stage to Arenberg?
And do you guys think one of the top riders could try to attack there? I saw in the last 44 km of this stage there are 12.8 km on cobblestone.

And I read today could be an interesting stage too. It's expected to be windy. But it's the first stage, the riders are fresh and I can't really imagine that one of the favourite gets caught.

I hope Contador will loose about 5 minutes in the first stages.

Sky for the win !

What do you guys think of the stage today (yesterday)?
Of course Cancellara is my favourite rider, and today he showed he's great character and he's a great teamplayer. He gave up his yellow jersey to ensure that the Schleck brothers didn't lose any time.
I also have to say among the top riders for the general classification I support Fränk and Andy Schleck, or lets say I dislike Contador (Fuentes affair), Basso (fuentes affair), Armstrong (thousands of accusation, also from ex-team members, positive doping test that didn't count) and some others because of similar things.

But today could have been such an interesting stage! Why waiting for all riders? Well, of course it wasn't - or better it wasn't only because the top downhill riders like Cancellara, Hushovd or Sanchez didn't crash - their fault, but hell, crashes belong to cycling, as bad as it sounds!

Keeping the bicycle under control even in the most difficult situations is one of the skills a rider needs to have aswell! And nobody is waiting for the weaker riders if they are crashing! Why didn't they wait for Cunego, Zabriskie, Moorenhout, Hincapie and Vandevelde? Why just for the very top stars?

I think it was totally wrong the way it happened and I'm disappointed nobody had the nuts to rider their own race! Cervelo tried it for some time but didn't seem to get any support from other teams even though they must have been potential top ten riders in the first group!

Cancellara didn't show his great character, he just followed the orders of the Saxo Bank team. Okay, he gave up the yellow jersey, but if he wouln't have done that, the younger Schleck could never win the Tour. So he did that for the team, not for the fallen riders. Cause if he would have done it for the fallen riders, then why didn't he wait for Vande Velde and Cunego?
I'm looking forward to see the cobblestones tomorrow ( my favorite races are Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders of course :p ), but it could be a real nightmare. All those 'noobs' on cobbles ...

That's what I said, he did a great job for the team.

If they're consistent they have to wait for every rider that crashes! And somehow I have a feeling that might happen and the stage gets sooooo boring! I hope I'm wrong though!
However, if I were a cobblestone specialist I'd try to escape with an early group which survives until the beginning of the cobblestones (so around 40km before the finish). And if some favourites crashes you're gonna have a stage victory ;-)
If Cancellara would really try to win the stage, without having to watch for the Schleck brothers, he'd win that stage without any problems. He's the best, and without Boonen, there is really nobody who is capable of following him ( although Boonen couldn't follow Spartacus ).

Cancellara is a jerk as he proved today. Nuff said :)

In my opinion was not the right thing they did yesterday. They waited for the cyclists which fell, and after that they should have continued racing. The news said that they stopped racing because they were afraid of more pile-ups.
To avoid such things I think it will be a good idea to change the rules in case of mass sprint. A few years ago, they set the rule that if there is a crash in the last 3km, the riders involved get the same time as the group they were in. I think they should make a new rule so in the last 500-700 meters, you get the same as the group you were in at that time. In this way there will be less cyclist in front during a sprint, only the ones involved. This way the chances of crash are lower, even in wet conditions like yesterday.
Well, a tour is always different than a single day race. It's the same with the time trials, Cancellara isn't that good in tour TTs while he's almost unbeatable in single day TTs. Could be the same for the cobblestone stage aswell.
But of course you're right, he won't be able to ride his race because he has to take care of the Schlecks.

Will be interesting to see if any from the favourites plans an attack. I can't imagine Contador or the Schlecks doing it, but Armstrong could be the man for it.

You're a wrestny admin as you proved today! ;-)

^^
Anyway, it seems next year they'll going to cycle with 4m between them, only on highways. And before every day, there is a lottery to decide who has the right to attack, so they can ride in front and thus no one can fall.

Bunch of sissies, its Tour de France. Its possible to fall. People go stand their for a whole day to see something spectacular, not to see them cross the line at 25km/h all together. Solidarity? My ass! Total disrespect for the spectators.
