Subject: Srebrenica 1995
The Srebrenica Massacre, also known as the Srebrenica Genocide, refers to the July 1995 killing of more than 8,000 Muslim Bosniak men and boys, as well as the ethnic cleansing of 25,000–30,000 refugees in the area of Srebrenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina, by units of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) under the command of General Ratko Mladić during the Bosnian War. A paramilitary unit from Serbia known as the Scorpions, officially part of the Serbian Interior Ministry until 1991, also participated in the massacre. In 1993 the United Nations had declared Srebrenica a "safe area" under UN protection but its Protection Force (UNPROFOR), represented on the ground by a 400-strong contingent of armed Dutch peacekeepers, failed to prevent the massacre.
The Srebrenica massacre is the largest mass murder in Europe since World War II. In 2004, in a unanimous ruling on the "Prosecutor v. Krstić" case, the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), located in The Hague, ruled that the Srebrenica massacre was genocide. Theodor Meron, the presiding judge, stated:
By seeking to eliminate a part of the Bosnian Muslims, the Bosnian Serb forces committed genocide. They targeted for extinction the 40,000 Bosnian Muslims living in Srebrenica, a group which was emblematic of the Bosnian Muslims in general. They stripped all the male Muslim prisoners, military and civilian, elderly and young, of their personal belongings and identification, and deliberately and methodically killed them solely on the basis of their identity.
I know.. WC final is tomorrow but please dont forget this.

R.I.P. all victims from Srebrenica, and all who were killed in war
Hmm, I remember learning about the whole situation when I was at school in little old New Zealand. I must have been.. 9 years old.
Too young to fully understand it though, don't really understand it now, mostly familiar with Kosovo.

A modern day war crime, Shame it happened to people after they were promised protection by the UN Dutch soldiers.
We never forgot that!
God rest my Muslim brothers'/sisters' souls!
It is a truth in Europe..
If UN could be more effective, Muslims could not die!

Well hopefully not only muslims "could not die"^^
Well this is your problem, always going with the religious offensive. Go Muslims, beat those Christians etc.
Have you seen this kind of attitude from other religions? West Europe is past this since 1272 when there was the last crusade...

Oh come on...
Spanish Inquisition
Antisemitism - not only a problem of nazi-germany
Of course many "western" religions had their history of oppressing/bashing other religions and are over it, but I think most religions only got over it in last century.

My first thought was I should close it as I usually have. But if you guys behave, then this thread can be open.
In Srebrenica died 3 Croatian catholic mens also, which will be buried together with muslims
Antisemitism of Nazi-Germany isn't caused by religion, but by origin of people. I mean, Hitler didn't make Germany a country fighting for religion, it was all nation/origin-based.
As for the Spanish inquisition...true that :)

hmmm.. I don't really agree, since with Hitlers antisemitism it didn't matter if your family lived in Germany for centuries or not, only religion mattered for the decision of deportation. For me it is clearly religion-based and not nationbased. :)
Well it is sad how many cruel things we cannot forget to make sure they will not happen again.

i saw a movie about that massacre, it was horrible
I'm not a specialit on this matter, so I might be wrong, but as far as I know Jewish believers are told to think only about the wellness and prosperity of Israel, that's in their religion...possibly that was one of the causes why Hitler was anti-Jewish. He also had some personal problems with Jews in his early life as far as I remember.
