I agree with you Jimceasar...banks and investors should suffer their losses themselves and not always the common people
2011-06-09 18:59:53
It's not that simple, if banks fall. Then the 'common' people lose their money as well.
No, they'll even lose more money.
So, we are exactly one year after Belgian general elections. Guess what, we still don't have a federal government, and it doesn't look like we're going to have one before October. If we'll have one.
And does it hurt at all?
Nope. We've still got regional governments and a caretaking federal government.

Stability and surrealism were born here.. No need for whining or worrying =p
2011-06-13 18:01:08
how does all this "no government" adds up towards the " language" conflict?
Aren't the Vlamish bit by bit more irritated over their Walonian counterparts?
I mean, it is all european union but I can see Belgium still dividing up...and it would not necessarely be a bad case...
2011-06-13 18:36:10
Time will figure thing out, but imo we've got way more important things to worry about then the 'language conflict'. Actually, their is no language conflict, just two sides of the countries that want opposite things from political perspective. (right vs left)
2011-06-13 21:52:12
so dividing up the country could be good?
2011-06-13 22:18:51
Don't see why it should be. Would bring a LOT of troubles in the short run. For example: how would you split Belgiums debt? What to do with Brussel? ...
Splitting Belgium's debt wouldn't be such a huge problem imo, Brussels however would.
2011-06-14 08:28:03
Maybe.. Probably not..
We can't even discuss pensions let alone Brussels (with EU having seat in it also so they will also want to have their say too)

Above that: Spain, the UK, France wouldn't be content because if we can split why not their minorities?

We'll get out of this don't you worry. We'll inform you when we have a solution =p
2011-06-14 09:35:58
this is not even about minorities, this is two seperate countries with different language and cultures, who always were opposed within Belgium...since Belgium no longer has overseas colonies, there is no need for being Belgium any longer.

I suggest that the French speaking parts will join France and that Flanders should become a free state, since it has enough economical power to be independent.

This way the burden would be over.
2011-06-14 10:41:54
Then what would you do with the German part of Belgium? :)

It's really not all that simple. And there really are bigger problems. Let me sum a few of them up:
Failing immigration and integration policy, failing social system, large part of population unwilling to work legally (and thus earning tax money + illegally earned money = more than normal working people), too large state instututions, ageing population, shortage of energy supply, lack of entrepreneurial people,....

These are ALL more important then the 'language and culture' issues.
2011-06-14 10:54:35
And where does brussels goes? Can't give it to the french the germans and the british would never accept that.

Give it too flanders? Hardly 10% of them speaks dutch

As Dos said it is more then that only the language gets the blame..
