Subject: »NEWS AROUND THE WORLD

First of all, the international community has made mistakes concerning Yugoslavia. For instance not supporting Slovenians, Croatians, Bosniaks, Kosovars and Macedonians when they asked for independence from a state in which the Serbs were trying to pull all the power towards them. Let's agree on that. However, that is not a reason to not put the generals of all parties (Croatian, Bosniak and Serb) that committed crimes behind bars. Gotovina for instance is just a war criminal. Okay, he's a national hero in Croatia, but he's a war criminal. That is a fact. Just like it's a fact Mladic, Milosevic, ... are war criminals too. What is true too, is that it is for the international community not always simple to see who is wrong and who is right. Okay, Srebrenica is quite clear the Serbs did a horrible thing there. But most of those crimes are only known after quite some time (which is not the case in the Srebrenica massacre though).

What I am saying is that it is 'easier' for The Hague to be objective than for former Yugoslavians and therefore it's 'easier' to determine what was right and wrong. The comparison of Serbia with Nazi-Germany is a step too far I believe, although there are indeed similarities.

If they would acknowledge it, that would mean that their reaction to the Yugoslav wars was rather inadequate.

Well, this what one might call a fact. EU response was too little WAY too late. US response was late in coming, but it did the job.

It would mean that Serbia's role in the war was simmilar to one of Germany, Italy and Japan in WWII and that UN, EU etc. tried to resolve such clear situation by staying neutral instead of clearly taking side and helping with full power.

Which is precisely what is said loud and clear by all serious researchers.

However, it would be an error to just point a finger at the Serbians.
I agree with everything except that I don't really see Gotovina's responsibility for war crimes. Name any of those on the list and you will see that they are all subjective and come down to political motives of Operation Storm which were righteous. Individual crimes performed during combat are responsibility of those individuals.

I completely agree.

Giving orders for ethnic cleansing is a crime against humanity for me.

gtfo and put some spam :)

btw.there is one video in which Gotovina yell on generals under his command cause of killing...And Gotovina is hero for us cause he liberated Croatia under JNA(Yugoslavian army) occupation...And my uncle (who was a soldier in war)said that civilian Serbs left their homes before army came, burning their houses down so they can blame croatian army for it...Also,he mentioned that civilian serbs had guns and that they took fire on our army...
What should I mention too is that the agressor and victim status should never get in question,as it did...Our houses are(were cause ther is much of them renewed) damaged, cities were destroyed(Vukovar for example) and there is a plenty of unknown mine fields...You can't find any of these stated in Serbia...So,we were attacked,we defend ourselves...end of story

Your uncle is unbelievably.

If you don't add sources, I'll have to consider your text as a pure subjective opinion, and therefore not reliable at all.

About the last sentence "So,we were attacked,we defend ourselves...end of story":
- You were attacked: check
- You defended yourselves: check
- You had every right to: check
- Your army has committed war crimes: check
- War crimes should be punished: check

After 20 years croats and serbs still arguing who started the war...all quiet on the eastern front...oh wait, we have a regional big brother...isn't that a great diplomatic achieve?
2011-06-17 22:06:57
I'm not telling war is a good thing and i never will...What happened-happened,nothing can be done about it...I'm 17,5 so I'm not going to explain anything or getting into some kind of argue...I just wrote what I heard...

Your army has committed war crimes: check

There isn't much evidence of this...Maybe our army did it,but Yugoslavian army did it much more(Srebrenica,Ovčara...)

War crimes should be punished-yes,of course

And I'm glad there is no more Yugoslavia...Country in which you can't express your opinion sucks...From what i heard from my parents,Tito was an ***hole :)

Goodbye now, think i'm not going to visit this thread anymore

Why are U pissed for? This is simple disscusion.

Because U were not born in Yugoslavia you are bad witness of what is like to be a citizen of these, for my opinion, beutifull country till war.

Dont accept easy what you heard of your father, mather or yuor uncle or TV. U have your own brain to think and read more.

I'm not pissed,I'm calm...And I had history classes, and judging on what I learnt,Yuga was bad...Without international marketing and closed, apsolutistic politic it was doomed to failure...

Doesn't matter. The Yugoslav Army committing more war crimes than Croatian Army doesn't make the crimes of the latter any less worse. When both sides are committing war crimes, it's hard to talk about the right and the wrong side, for so far such thing exists in a violent conflict. (And again, to be clear, I'm not defending anyone, the Yugoslav War was an absolute mess.)

Btw, from what I know, I am glad there is no more Yugoslavia too. Collectivism and central authoritarianism, two of my most hated ideologies, they always end with a complete mess.

One may say that, another will say that as you were a citizen, you are not objective. It might have been nice for you. Ask the non-Serbian former-Yugoslavs what they think about that country ...

country that had closed stricked economy or better to say closed everything + superapsolutistic politicians is definitely doomed, as can be seen from china's example. lol

China, interesting example. The social bubble China is building on will explode some time. Maybe not this year, or the next decade, but the China of today is untenable.
