If raising taxes is an absolute taboo then borrow more money is the only other option to keep the country go ... it's ridicules but speaking about raising taxes will surely get you into a fight with the average American. Maybe this already changed a bit but absolutely not enough to really make it happen. Interference of the state is not done, even if this means an uncontrollable debt.

responsibility in public finance is the answer...unfortunately, there is not any space for long term solutions, they will need to rebuild their economy from base and real reforms, not just cosmetic changes...U.S. economy is almost terminally sick...
2011-08-17 15:20:19
What does it mean "terminally sick" when speaking about an economy?

U.S. economy is almost terminally sick...

right!
anyway..
in this years debt increase is more connected with gdp decrease (less taxes revenue, same expense)
than with taxation policies!

Americans are lucky. We're taxed up to the eyeballs on everything and still in massive debt.

almost dead, living for consume (meaning from government, through companies up to single citizens) is way to the hell...they´re spending whole money for rising consume in sick thinking, they could save/repair their economy by this way...I wouldn´t care whats going happen in U.S. if their economy weren´t tightly connected with European...this could affect me personally...also, there is great danger of future huge army conflict (again, history shows us lot of examples)
Warren Buffett pays 17,4 percent taxes. His employees in his office between 33 and 41 percent. Lucky Americans.

(In Belgium, he would pay ... 0,6 percent taxes (you've read that well!). Lucky Belgians.)

Now that I read this ... I heard this before a long time ago. Interference of the state sounds like socialism and ofcourse that's bad in America :P And also the average American is defending the 'American Dream' (that already died a long time ago ;P) and by that mainly the rich as they are the ones who really benefits of this no interference.

it is no different in the Netherlands. A lot of people vote for a party like the VVD which is absolutely not interested in defending their interests. Perception is everything in politics. Truth and reality are for silly intellectuals. :P

Truth and reality are for silly intellectuals. :P

truth does not exist in politic!
Our democracies are populism and tv..
(and in Italy we're the worst, we seem fotball fan, every one with his team's shirt listening only what tell us we were right!)

Are we talking about economics or are we preaching the inminent arrival of the messiah and armagedon? :P
2011-08-18 10:08:33
Not much difference between them, I'd say.
