Is also not needed if you don't belong to an oppressed minority, right? ;)
But do you want to organise one ?
And until those events happened, it show that being homosexual is not seen as a trivial way of life as being heterosexual...

IF that parade was a serious threat for riots, there's nothing wrong with forbidding it. However, we cannot know if this was a serious threat or not. Ergo, we cannot judge if this is a violation of freedom or not.
Edit: forbidding it because they are homosexual (although I do think the same as the Croatian guy) would be a violation of their freedom. Not forbidding it because they are homosexual would be wrong too.

The main problem here is just that freedom is dying... If some extremists claims they organise a counter-parade, it is their freedom but if State stop this fearing a riot by extremists (like last year) thus, it will imply that every event submitted by some people and the answer of extremists will be : we will counter-parade too to see the state forbidding ti, the freedom will die.
Edit : i hope my explanation is enough clear...

That is a problem. However, when there is a serious threat, it is a tough call to make.
Sure. But the strenght of a democraty is to be able to guarantee freedom against fear for everyone.

when your right to talk or to go everywhere you wants will be a "seroius threat for riots", there will be nothing wron in forbid it to you?
What is a right then?
Something you can do if eveyone else doe not care?
It's really sad reading something like this in III millennium.

first of all you need to see things from wider perspective
parade wasn't banned because our president or government don't like gays (to be honest we have few gay ministers) but because it would be big risk for safety of our country at the moment. i'll try to explain as short as i can
serbia is one of the poorest european countries, with biggest unemployment rate that has been trough lot of wars in the past 20years. our problems with kosovo have reached critical moments. so combine current political and economical problems with our serbian mentality and you'll get a critical mass that is just waiting for a reason to explode
on top add the fact that serbs are homophobic nation to be honest and that in this climate that could be the momentum needed by radical right wing parties to start a revolution
some things need to be sorted out first, you can't have gay parades in this climate. imagine gay parade in berlin in 1955.
first we need to educate people and sort bigger problems. things that took western countries half a century to implement are expected to be adopted by some countries in 10 years. that can hardly be done

Gay pride parade ban 'dark day for human rights'
This is not just dark day for gays in Serbia, also for a common people, gay friendly or not.
In last few days there was so many hard situations for my folks that rised up tensions:
30/09/2011...In a north part of Serbian province Kosovo seven serbian man and ambulance vehicle were shot by american soldiers (KFOR) on a barricades that thay made in protest of irreverence of basic human rights. Fortunately, all of this people stay alive.
01/10/2011...One of the newest political party ‚‚Dveri‚‚ (right wing), organised big request protest for replacement of president Boris Tadić and against gay pride parade which should be on day after. This protest was banned by Serbian authorities.
02/10/2011...Serbian authorities banned the gay pride parade and a number of counter protests because of security concerns Also, in a south part of Serbian province Kosovo, serbains father and son were shot by albanian terrorists. Father is dead, son hard wounded.
If U add that our thrashy government is made by party which is overthrown Milosevic and party wich is overthrowned and lifelong president is Milosevic + other funny parties , U may know what is like here for a common people not just for gays.
Best way for government to stay on seat is to ban people on the street who are thirsty for changes,
and ingratiate to others voters because new elections are so close.I think this has no bond with security of state, its about power and money.

Europe's highest court has opened the way for sports fans to watch live matches through foreign TV services, throwing in to doubt the value of highly sought-after and lucrative broadcast rights
come on guys..
..how much do you pay for satellite tv sport matches?

too much for us :)
I'd rather watch Serie A with foreign commentaries, at least it would be fun to hear their pronunciation :P

LOL..
wait for your turn..
when someone will tell ou the taxation will raise and public services will be lost,
when someone will tell you your work is not needed no more,
because they have to pay someone else's debt..
then try to imagine someone talking you like this:"How long it will take till rumpil realize that their "old life" is away for ever..... ??"

"First they came…" is a famous statement attributed to pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) about the inactivity of German intellectuals following the Nazi rise to power and the purging of their chosen targets, group after group. The text of the quotation is usually presented roughly as follows:
First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.
First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.
The whole world has a debt to greek civilisation and philosophy.
