The whole world has a debt to greek civilisation and philosophy.
How long will it take before populism is being torn down? The sad thing though is that you probably think what you've written there is true.
Rubinho, you don't know what your are talking about, so please read something before writing.
the problems of Greece is the top of an iceberg, you do not see the entire questions..
Don't you see that greek revolts, indignados movement in spain, occupy Wall street manifestation are the same thing? Do you really believe in what TV tells you about them?
Lets do some exaples:
1-In Italy right now we had an increase of taxation (conservative-right government) due to our public debt and difficulty paying.. why? (think carefully..) do we had worst condition than other countries? no.
so we had a growin debt? no. do we had a worst crisis than other EU countries? no.
so why?
2-do you know EU will buy our bonds (maybe with eurobonds..) do someone asked it to you? You know that you are paying OUR debt with your tax???
Is this democracy?
3-BCE send a letter to italian goverment few days ago, they write we must sell every public good and service we have to privatizate it and we have to make a pension reform (our pensionistic system has a
balanced budget)
Don't you think this is just not democracy? Why the hell BCE has to teach us what to do?
4- in time of crysis in EU, with people losing work and companies that close...
banks are for the second time being saved by EU (with our, mine and your, taxes!!!)
link
do someone of us vote for this?

The rules and reality says that debt above 60% is dangerous and not allowed. Italy has how big debt :) ? .. that is answer to your first part. Then...I hope Slovakia will stop buying debt by Eurobonds, or by that "EU stabilization program". We will vote "no" I hope and block it.
You shouldnt ask Why you have problems now, you should just ask Why people in your country allow to get down your state finance so deep, you have democracy, it is just mistake of people!

I can't think of words to describe the selfishness that the newest members show..
Not to mention the utter stupidity. If this doesn't get dealt with in a proper fashion, the EU will implode. Which will mean the end of all the money countries like rumpil's get. Let's see how long they'll get by without, not to mention the fact they would have to get their own currency again. The newest members stand to lose by far the most.

I do know that Greece is just the top. The underlying problem is the failure of our monetary union. I am not against European cooperation, but the way it is organized right now is the problem.

I do, I just say they won't help anything about the current situation.

Public debt of Italy is huge. And yes, I know Belgium's debt is even bigger (compared to GDP), but in Belgium, they even have to start with the savings (I don't want an increase of the taxes, our taxes are already the highest of Europe).
2-do you know EU will buy our bonds (maybe with eurobonds..) do someone asked it to you? You know that you are paying OUR debt with your tax???

No, and I agree with you on this point. I do criticize the current system of Euro and EU. The lack of democracy.

BCE? Do you mean the ECB (European Central Bank)? Look, this is what I would like to see: the EU makes severe laws about national debt and about budget deficits. Countries who don't accept them (and the people can vote for this in a referendum!), no problem, but than you can no longer be part of the EU. And of course, every country can determine how it wants to make sure they don't have a budget deficit, as long as they follow the European rules about it.

Well, in Flanders, our unemployment rate is going down, so that isn't a real problem for us. And yes, Dexia bank is now again in big troubles, but the banks will have to pay back all the money they needed to be saved.

epic fail..
The problem indeed is that in Europe, there are just 'sham democracies'. Switzerland is the exception. However, the people of a country are still financially responsible for what the country does.
