I'm always a bit suspicious when I hear comments from someone connected with Greenpeace...so:
"It is absolutely disgraceful for the Japanese government to pump yet more taxpayer money on an unneeded, unwanted and economically unviable whaling programme, when funds are desperately needed for recovery efforts," said Junichi Sato, the executive director of Greenpeace Japan.
the question is - why does the Japanese government support it if it's a no gain-all loss programme? Any info on that, or whether mr. Sato is lying as Greenpeace often does? :)

-economic crisis -> work lost -> poverty -> dissatisfaction of a large part of society and fear for the future
-parties demagogic communication choices (see right-wing politicians talking about immigration or left-wing politicians talking about jobs and revenues)
-areas of subculture and increasingly marginalized people due to new forms of communication lacking of responsability.
-racism/neo fascim/xenophobia/islamophobia/etc never ended in occidental countries
-lack of real democracy -> I can not choose, so I'll find another way/another idea to find representation
- inability to choose the way to happiness independently -> you look where advertising tells him to find -> you get unhappy -> you get violent (no happy people get violent vithout cause!)
- The man and his wife both had a job.
- There is (almost) no right-wing in Wallonia.
- Neo-fascism? Come on man, be serious. Don't use words you don't understand.
- I don't think people like this man are worried about democracy.
- You are responsible for your happiness, not society.
The man said that the whole world was against him (against his lawyers, which he needed when they found 3.000 plants for cannabis and multiple army weapons).

I'd totally question this one, but i strongly agree that the man didnt have any excuse for what he did. As far as i've heard, there was a 17 months old baby who died there, its insane :(

A 17 months old baby and two teenagers (15 and 17) were killed, the guy who shot committed suicide.

Just learn to read post guy..
1.I was respondig to another user a bout another fact.. (I posted a link before, just read it!)
2. Neo Fascism is a serius problem in a lot of countries (I do not know in belgium, in Italy it is..)
3. Surely the responsability for happiness is individual, it has nothing to do with my post, obviously!
try read it again..
- You are responsible for your happiness, not society.
Saying that people should be happy regardless of the society they live in is utterly cynical.
That reminds of a scene from a great movie "Serpico". Based on a famous true story Al Pacino played an honest NY cop Serpico who didn't want to take bribe as all other cops at that time did. Obviously, other cops wouldn't let him get away with being honest. His girlfriend gets annoyed because he feels deeply frustrated by this situation and she tells him that he's overreacting and that he should be happy by accepting this situation and do as all other cops do. He replies to her with this story:
"Well, there was this king, and he ruled over his kingdom.
Right in the middle of the kingdom there was a well.
That's where everybody drank.
One night, this witch came along... and she poisoned the well.
And the next day, everybody drank from it except the king...
and they all went crazy.
They got together in the street and they said...
''We got to get rid of the king, 'cause the king is mad.''
And then that night, he went down and he drank from the well.
And the next day all the people rejoiced...
because their king had regained his reason."
You are responsible for your happiness, not the society? Where does that lead to?

Are you refering to Lega Nord? Because if you are, you don't know what neo fascism is.

You're right, I should have been more clear. In a free society like ours, you are mainly responsible for your happiness.

I will prefer if you make quesstion without those provocation, I know what is fascism and neo fascism.
I was talking about neo fascists that call themselves fascist (casa Pounf, or Forza Nuova)!
But there's more to say, berlusconi said so much time mussolini was not a bad leader and we have in parliament the nepew of Mussolini (alessandra) and a lot of people that comes from those areas.
About Lega nord some years ago one of the most important politician of that party in a meeting with a france politician party explained that he was not far from those ideas (it's taked from a france documentary: italian link)

I will also have problems with people if they kill cows with harpoons, or what ever animal that is suffering unnecessary ;( Apart from the fact that many whales are endangered species.

Oh, now it's mainly responsible and in a free world. It's nice we've entered the grey area so that we can both be right. :P But ok, I think you got it and thank you for admiting your mistake. You definately can't say that society has nothing to do with our happiness.
And I'm really wondering which world exactly you consider mainly free and what is the historical date that you consider it to be mainly free since and whether you consider it mainly free for all of its citizens or only some of them.

It is difficult to say when our society was free. In fact, that doesn't even matter. The fact is that the Belgian society is a free society now. That's the only thing that matters for this case.
And of course the society has an influence. For instance, I don't think I could be happy under communist rule without freedom.

how is this different than that video? apart from amount of blood (which of course is inevitable having in mind the size of whale)
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8783119500533507759
much difference?
i know its disturbing... but its normal. We are animals we eat other animals.
There is a slight difference though. Whale population would easily go extinct without protection. Moreover, would be a lot harder to stimulate once reduced to a small population (slow breeding process etc..). And, cannot be bred in captivity.
Therefor, since it's such a unique species, i would not allow hunting. For whatever purposes.
