Earthquakes in the last 2 years: Sumatra 7,6 (2009), Vanuatu 7,9 (2009), Haití 7,0 (2010), Chile 8.8 (2010), New Zealand 6,3 (2011), Japan 8.9 (2011)

Earthquakes and tsunami's are normal events, but a tsunami this size again in such a short time is not really 'normal' (as if you can say nature is in anyway abnormal :P).

you forgot: Kurill islands 7,0 (7.4. 2009), Honduras 7,1 (28.5. 2009), Indian Ocean 7,6 (10.8. 2009), Japan 7,3 (2.9. 2009), Albania 7,0 (6.9. 2009), Samoa 8,3 (30.9. 2009), Indonesia 7,9 (30.9. 2009), Indonesia 7,4 (12.10. 2009), China 6,9 (14.4. 2010), Papua New Guinea 7,0 (5.8. 2010), Vanuatu 7,5 (10.8. 2010), Chile 7,1 (2.1. 2011) and Pakistan 7,2 (18.1. 2011),

as you can see, there is much more earthquakes around the world and depends only on magnitude and constructions in affected area how great are the loses...if todays earthquake would affect another (maybe less developed) country, number of dead people would rise over 100k...

of course I am with Japanese in my mind today...also as with people in any other country destroyed by any kind of natural disaster...

I don´t think so...I´ve been studying natural disasters and I have really detailed stats and this number is normal...maybe little bigger in inter centuries comparison caused by population growth and better instruments for documents them...

That's what I'm saying, earthquakes and tsunami's are normal events, they happen all the time, sometimes smaller, sometimes larger. But what is kinda special is a large tsunami in 2004 and now this 1.
2011-03-11 17:11:01
this one is special because it affected a highly developed country with densely populated coast...case from 2004 was special in natural conditions and because none of the affected countries was prepared for something like this...I am glad you´re not one of these catastrophic predictors saying about the end of the days :) much more dangerous for world´s population are people itself, than a nature...

Ai, more nuclear problems in Japan ...

8:12am Dozens of troops trained for chemical disasters have been sent to the Fukushima nuclear plant in case of a radiation leak, along with four vehicles designed for use in atomic, biological and chemical warfare, says defence ministry official Ippo Maeyama.

8:08am Tokyo Electric Power has lost its ability to control pressure in some of the reactors of a second nuclear power plant at its quake-hit Fukushima facility in northeastern Japan, the company has said.

Pressure is stable inside the reactors but rising in the containment vessels, a spokesman said - although he did not know if there would be a need to release pressure at the plant, which would involve a release of radiation.

Never in my life have I seen such a level of sheer destruction. I'm glued to the 24 hour news channel, watching chaos unfurl in front of me. R.I.P. to all that have died and I hope Japan can recover.
