Many Wall Street executives says wrongdoing is necessary: survey
Tue Jul 10, 2012 6:10am BST

(Reuters) - If the ancient Greek philosopher Diogenes were to go out with his lantern in search of an honest many today, a survey of Wall Street executives on workplace conduct suggests he might have to look elsewhere.

A quarter of Wall Street executives see wrongdoing as a key to success, according to a survey by whistleblower law firm Labaton Sucharow released on Tuesday.

In a survey of 500 senior executives in the United States and the UK, 26 percent of respondents said they had observed or had firsthand knowledge of wrongdoing in the workplace, while 24 percent said they believed financial services professionals may need to engage in unethical or illegal conduct to be successful.

Sixteen percent of respondents said they would commit insider trading if they could get away with it, according to Labaton Sucharow. And 30 percent said their compensation plans created pressure to compromise ethical standards or violate the law.

"When misconduct is common and accepted by financial services professionals, the integrity of our entire financial system is at risk," Jordan Thomas, partner and chair of Labaton Sucharow's whistleblower representation practice, said in a statement.

The survey's release comes as the fallout from Barclays PLC's (BARC.L) Libor-rigging scandal continues and other banks including Citigroup Inc (C.N), HSBC Holdings PLC (HSBA.L), Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (RBS.L) and UBS AG (UBSN.VX) await the outcome of an industry-wide probe.

I find Colbert somewhat irritating...:P

guys... just to know... what is your opinion on Syria conflict :-) ?.

My opinion is that US is trying to make small war there which can spread into wide regional conflict so they can find easier way how to start war against Iran. Russia and Chine dont want allow next US aggression.

Who of you think that I am wrong, please tell me your opinion :-)
2012-08-12 21:28:47
I think Assad is messing up big times and that some foreign force should intervein ASAP.

2012-08-12 22:55:06
I do, because you are always only looking at one side of the story, or make up stories and choose that side ...
2012-08-13 15:41:08
there should be some foreign intervention but i would prefer not the US.
2012-08-13 16:26:44
Problem is that if it will be a European intervention it can have a counter effect like Iraq, also when it's done by or with the US. China and Russia won't do it as they constantly pick the wrong allies, also again in this case they support the suppressors (surprise surprise...). And if it are the neighbours who send in troops it will become most probably another regional war.

guys... just to know... what is your opinion on Syria conflict :-) ?.

My opinion is that something should be done. al-Assad knows he can do basically what he wants because nothing will happen, mostly thanks to his pals China and Russia. If 137 United Nations countries vote against al-Assad and 12 countries support him and still nothing happens, something is really wrong with the system. By the way, Bolivia, Belarus, Cuba, China, Ecuador, Iran, Nicaragua, North Korea, Russia, Syria, Venezuela and Zimbabwe were the countries who supported al-Assad. And we all know the level of human rights/freedom of speech in (almost all) those countries so their support is not a surprise..
They really should get rid of that f***ing veto thing. If it's not Russia and China who misuse it then it's USA like we saw some years ago in Israel vs Palestina situation when Bush jr and Sharon were bosses and voting was something like 4 votes for Israel and way over hundred against them..

China and Russia won't do it as they constantly pick the wrong allies

hehehe... funny. so good US and bad russia....as usual. Maybe just nobody tell them who is that good guy, so they make just little mistake of misunderstand it :-DD

Russia and Chine are not sending there weapons and making that conflict worse as US is doing now.
I am not sure, but do more weapon solve it faster ?

I am sure, that there is some economic or war policy reason, this is again not about "democracy". I think that Syria is good natural way how to "world" (so not just US) can attack Iran and Russia and Chine dont want let continue this western aggression. But maybe I am wrong.....

What I know as sure is that terrorist are here only cos two things:
1. they live all life in war region, from their childhoods
2. and have guns !
If US is constantly supporter of war and sending there weapons, who is supporter of terrorist then ???
