Usually there are multiple factions, that has different relations to each other, and I guess sometimes even the West don't know, who are they supporting exactly. For example here is a map about the situation in Mali:
Link
In the first half of last year Ansar Dine and MNLA were fighting together against the gov, around summer / autumn they turned against each other, when the French came in, MNLA offered cease fire to the government, etc.
In Lybia the rebels were also a loose alliance of several tribes and factions.
In Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood promised, they will cooperate with the liberals, they will respect democracy and they will be like Erdogan's party in Turkey. Apparently they changed their mind, when they gained power.
So there's usually chaos, with temporary alliances, not one side against another. And extremists are usually very good at exploiting this chaos.

Exactly.
Exactly.
you are right into chaos is hard to know at 100%, but i prefer laicist dictators in thouse countires at south, like saddam housein, rather than muslim extremists who belive we are people who should dead because we are infidels
America and Europe felt the same way, they even sponsored some of these regimes, like the Mubarak regime. But at the time of the "Arabian Spring" (or whatever it's called), it looked like that the people will sooner or later overthrow these weak and corrupt dictatorships. That's why in some places, the West started to bet on the rebels, so they wouldn't become completely anti-West.

The question is if that makes any difference.
The irony is that for instance in Egypt, the revolution started because of the lack of democracy and the demand of 'freedom', but eventually, they might end up with less liberty. If that is the case, I support Mubarak-like regimes. Political freedom isn't the only liberty that matters.

The problem is that no one can predict the future. The only thing everyone knew was that many people didn't accept dictator Mubarak anymore, so supporting Mubarak wasn't an option, except for countries like Russia and China ofcourse, who seems to like supporting bad regimes and dictators.
Now we can only wait and see what will happen. It will take some time before we truly know if democracy will take over or some other bad regime takes controle.

Russia supports anyone, who buys it's weapons, China supports anyone with exploitable resources.

Unfortunately I don't know any. I rather read news in Hungarian and mostly in off-line media. So that wouldn't help.
From the pictures and titles, I thought that the articles were about those topics you said. Those usually interest me, but never mind then.

I don't understand why the media reports extensively about the gang rape cases in India but very little about much more indicative and interesting case in the US American Steubenville high school.
I had to find out about this case through an accidental comment on a news portal. This is a much more worrying case as there are so many people involved that could have done something at some point and they didn't. Instead, they filmed the whole thing.
