Well yeah, Chechnya has the right to determine its own future. I know Russia is not accepting that, but the fact that Russia is not granting that right tot Chechnya does not mean that Crimea doesn't have the same right.
2014-03-04 19:28:30
If they want to be a part of Russia, they can easily move there:).

And if Russia wants to follow your logic [self-declaration of the country-allignment] then they should start with leaving Chechnya alone. Then they can start crying about the fate Crimean Russians.
2014-03-04 19:29:05
But if Russia is not accepting that, then Russia cannot demand such right for the Crimeans...
2014-03-04 19:30:07
this is, I think, a weak argument for Russia to overtake Crimea (without a vote).

Well, the vote is going to take place at the end of this month.

voting to have ones own country... I bet the people of Chechnya would like that.

Yes, the Chechens have the right to have their own country. Of course.

(I'm not defending Russia.)

If they want to be a part of Russia, they can easily move there:).

Is that what the Polish government said to the Germans of Vorpommern, East Prussia and Silesia?

I'm sorry, but that remark is retarded, I'm not wasting my time on that.

And if Russia wants to follow your logic [self-declaration of the country-allignment] then they should start with leaving Chechnya alone. Then they can start crying about the fate Crimean Russians.

I agree that Russia is violating that logic. But that doesn't imply the logic is invalid.

It's like saying the Americans cannot demand the respect of human rights in Syria because they have Guantanamo and the drones in Pakistan. Yes, it does make the Americans look like idiots and hypocrites, but their demand for the respect of human rights in Syria IS justified.

if a majority of the Crimean population wants to be a part of Russia instead of Ukraine

where is some research? research by russian army? ;) if so, it should be given this right but with voting of people first, after it react (possible problems from ukrainian side) ;)

2014-03-04 19:36:07
IF. IF a majority wants that. That's why I'm waiting for that vote before saying anything about what should happen with Crimea. Maybe you should wait too.
2014-03-04 19:40:00
Yes I can wait, I dont have to care, man, Im not living here, but some people do ;)

Im talking about russian acts, are they waiting too?

2014-03-04 19:54:53
You really believe that:

a. the voting will have any impact on what Russia does
b. the voting will be clean/fair

?
2014-03-04 20:00:24
a. No. But if the vote is in favor of Russia, then what Russia does seems to be justified.
b. Not necessarily. But what's the alternative?

Edit: Look, I'm not a democrat. But a lot of people seem to care about democracy.

No. But if the vote is in favor of Russia, then what Russia does seems to be justified.

really, you are person who like using logic so, isnt it wrong way?

It's already told to Levitate on the Dutch forum by someone who studied this subject (international law) so he already knows it all. I have blocked him so I can't read his posts (luckily), but I guess he is posting the same stuff on both forums, only on the international forum he can go on because he doesn't have to face someone, who can simply put him on his place because that person has more knowledge about this subject because of a study.

That's your kind of thing, isn't it? Guessing.
It doesn't worth (nor need) to answer it :-p

Well, first a vote and then a Russian 'invasion', that would be preferable, yes.

But we have a Dutch poem in which the following sentence is written: "Between dream and reality, there are a lot of practical objections." And international politics is all about realism and pragmatism.
It's fun to make him guess :p
