You know when something is wrong with you ... when the (other) known forum looney becomes your friend/ally. But great that you 2 found eachother, could be the start of a great friendship. Maybe you should SKmail eachother all your crazy thoughts from now on, much better as using the Sokker forum.

What a surprise:

Russia Eyes Crimea’s Oil and Gas Reserves

According to Reuters, Crimea may nationalize oil and gas assets within its borders belonging to Ukraine, and sell them off to Russia. Crimea’s Deputy Prime Minister hinted at the possibility that it would take control of Chornomorneftegaz, a Ukrainian state-owned enterprise, and then “privatize” it by selling it to Gazprom. “After nationalisation of the company we would openly take a decision - if a large investor, like Gazprom or others emerges - to carry out (privatisation),” Deputy Prime Minister Rustam Temirgaliev said.

This is the gasfield: Skifska

What did the pro-Russia Italian wrote? I quote:

Ah ok, I get it now....
It's all about the money!!! :)
So I've been a fool thinking this was about the will of the people... :)

Come on, show us your neutrality now!! Blame your comrade Russia for this money stealing behaviour. Or are you going to show the hypocrisy once again?

You are now describing only 1 part of the Cold War, the fighting in other countries, but there was much more, like for example the Warschaupact. And not only the militairy use but also the militairy power displayed by Russia is also Cold War behaviour.

Putin is a kind of Hitler, pissed over the lost territories after the fall of the Soviet Empire and is now taking it back by force.

yeah, as western countries united in NATO so communist countries united in the Vasraw pact

But my point is than as in the cold war ( and even after the cold war) any countries with NW wont attack another woth the same weapons. Like India and pakistan even they hate each other a lot

So, i think Russia will not attack any NATO country, neither any nato country will attack Russia.

And even, if they fight, they wont fight directly to avoid the disaster of using nuclears and will fight in a 3hd place with conventional weapons

I think those nukes are mostly for show and won't be used, not even when countries owning these weapons attack eachother (see India and Pakistan: Kashmir conflict). Maybe in the most extreme situation, but everyone does realize that using these weapons can be the end of the world, and using these weapons is at least the end of some major cities in the country as others will shoot back these same terrible weapons, and maybe even more as expected because I don't think any country is honest about the true number of nukes they own. In fact, officially the Netherlands don't have nukes, but we do have US nukes, just as many other NATO countries but it is a secret where the US nukes are and how many .

If the EU countries (and US) are willing to send an army to fight Russia, Putin (and other Russian 'leaders') will also know this won't be a fight to take over Russia but to stop Russia invading and taking over neigboring countries. That is a different kind of war.

EDIT: and don't forget, Russia is getting more and more isolated, even their most powerful ally, China, isn't backing up Russia (China Doesn't Back Russia's Invasion Of Crimea), and China won't like to see Russia shooting nukes because China also has a lot to lose with an all out war.

What Russia Knew About the Boston Marathon Bomber

An unreleased report shows that the Russian government concealed key information on Tamerlan Tsarnaev two years before the bombing

Could Russia’s information on Tamerlan Tsarnaev have prevented the Boston Marathon bombings?

Russian authorities intercepted a phone conversation in which the older Tsarnaev brother discussed Islamic jihad with his mother, but they withheld the information from the FBI, according to an unreleased government review that comes as the one-year anniversary of the Boston bombing approaches.

Congress will be briefed on additional details from the report Thursday, and some findings are expected to be released to the public next week.

Watch the video for details.
Satellite images reveal Russian military buildup on Ukraine's border.

A politically possible alternative:
on pages 582 you will find two posts, and another one on page 583.

In short, the only thing needed in this affair, is balance, balancing the "arguments", at the moment putin/russia does whatever he wants, russia makes up the "arguments" with a threat of force, Ukrainie has no chance whatsoever to defend itself, alone - it a simple fact.

As we don't want war, and russian army is ready to invade, we should do everything what is possible to make the most probable intervention or invasion of russian forces in east Ukraine, as hard as possible and give a clear idea of the repercussions to russia itself, if they go through with it - and make a decision to steal more territory and gas and oil (on which Ukraine depends on). Unlike Crimea with ale the oil which is already "lost" or stolen.
Sanctions were a laughable or just weak idea, and so far they are working in Putin's favor if anything,
So much stronger military presence not around ukrainie but around the aggresor would be something for Putin to think about, and NATO would be ready for any other scenario's similar to the aftermath of 1938.

Historical sensitivity, and keeping to the facts, is not russia hate.

+

-doubling gas prices.
-stealing crimea + its oil off.
-army ready for an invasion, all around Ukraine borders.
..but we all know, that Putin actually wants to help Ukraine resolve the crisis... ;-)

PS: I wonder what's crimea with its resources "worth" to Putin.
If any thing.. russia could buy Crimea off from Ukraine, like they sold Alaska...

Who hacked your account? I shall remind you of this post for good in the other thread :D

When it's about international politics, I know ideology does not matter.

I think the error is believing that Ukraine was a sovering country.
it was not, it will be not.

I read that those satellite pictures are from the year 2013 :-)

So are the old pictures important ?

Ofcourse it is. Maybe not to Russia, because it was once part of the Soviet Empire and Ukraine has a (pro-)Russian minority (just as many other countries have minority groups who are not invaded by their neighbor), but to the rest of the world Ukraine is a sovereign nation with borders that are clear for all other countries.

www.un.org - Member States of the United Nations

And also: an agreement signed on Dec. 5, 1994, by the United States, Britain, Russia (!!!) and Ukraine, promising to recognize Ukraine’s borders in exchange for Ukraine giving up its nuclear weapons at the time.
