Subject: Nuclear power debate: yes or no?
The space scenario belongs to the future. But it would require much developement to be realistic. You've got to be both 100% sure, that there's no risk of an accident during launch - and it's got to be waaay less expensive than today. Maybe if they ever build a "space-elevator". But I don't think it's very likely.
A deep repository is much more practical with today's technology. It's safe and relatively cheap. Another option is to drill the waste very deep into areas, where the continental drift will take it to the center of the earth eventually. It would of course require absolute certainty, that it's not suddenly spewed out af a volcano.

1. The difference is (fortunately) in the explosions and the release of radiation compared to Tchernobyl.
Yes, so happy end, Fukushima was modern PP and this is result, no Tchernobyl. Local accident has of course big problems and causalities (but Tsunami make much bigger damage), but now it is local problem and no worldwide... or not ?
2. Do you know how much weight space crafts can carry into space and how much nuclear waste is stored on earth?
I wrote that in future, maybe after 20-30 years it is not so huge problem... just look 30 years back on that space technology and current :-). I said, we can storage it for some time and then this we will be able to solve.....
In 1980 people can not imagine that so much space satellites can be in space and that also poor Slovakia will have second astronaut in space :-) And look, we have second now :-)

You are just another sad example of people who not consider the consequences of their doings.
Not anywhere in this whole thread have you done so.

I would like see the consequences of closing down nuclear PP.... it would be end of world :-(.
Rebellions in every country due to no electricity :-(

If you understand this :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Probability_theory
you will understand why there is no local issue with np or nuclear weapon tests, it does affect us all, more or less.
Now here I go again wasting my time trying to make people think before they say silly things. I'll stop that right now.

Btw there you jumping to conclusions again.

Does anyone know any good ebooks or online-publications about nuclear energy? I need some for my school project but in estonian we dont have any books about it and i dont know much about foreign academic search engines(Ebscohost doesnt have much books and same goes with Sciencedirect search engines).

My teacher pointed us at 'without the hot air' by David Mckay. I've no clue whether it is appropriate for you, as I didn't have a look at it myself, but is a sort of free book about doing away with fossil fuels.
Thanx for recommending this book. Here's also a very useful review I found: Review
I am going to say 1 and 1 one sentence:
Fukushima should turn people pro-nuclear power
Fukushima should turn people pro-nuclear power
ok, no happy-end here... :-( If reactor core is leaking and all that high radiation is now spreading out, it is bad for all world :-( Condolences to all Japan people

(maybe it is not suitable to add now, but I dont think that nuclear power-plants are in generally bad, just that it was really big mistake to build nuclear PP in such a risk area where are so dangerous earthquakes. World agency for atom energy should strictly prohibit building next PP in risky areas.)

The information is hard to interpret at the moment. On one hand the radioactive water in the turbine hall of reactor 3 clearly suggest, that there is some kind of leak in the containment. The turbine hall isn't a part of the containment. How serious the leak is is hard to gather from the evidence so far. But it's a serious situation for sure, and there has been reports of somewhat concerning levels of caesium and iodine in California and Alaska.

I just hoped that this has already ended and with "relatively" good end... :-(
