Subject: Nuclear power debate: yes or no?

2011-03-14 19:17:29
but the solar cells are dangerous for the environmnet, and they aren't recyclable.

I have some problem to believe that recycle of solar cells are more dangerous for the environment than the nuclear plant.

Can I answer the questions for myself? Thank you.

Do you pay the price of any petroleum ship washed with sea water (everyone, always.. )?

I hope not.

do you pay for any ship full of oil that made a disaster in this wordl?

I hope not.

Errors made by companies should not be given through to the consumer.

A nuclear plant is only very dangerous when it's placed in a dangerous area, like Japan. I don't say it's not dangerous (there is always a risk, I am willing to take that risk), I just say it's not that dangerous as some people say now, because of an earthquake, which won't happen here.

These cells contain a little cadmium compound(elemental cadmium is really nasty stuff, in a compound not that much) but other than that it should be pretty usual waste to recycle.

akiro, try to imagine how many solar panels must be produced to be able exchange nuclear plants, then yes, recycle of so huge amount can be really problem too....

Then we have something to it. Right now there is one about 30 km from mine house, only it is standing in Germany. So we (the Dutch) have nothing to it.

we have solar panels at some our blocks of flat, at the small town where I live.... but owners of that block of flat knows that it is not very efficient, but they like it :-)

but it is about mass production, bigger can make this things much cheaper, but nuclear plants are very good too :-) and cheap...

those are not errors,
this is how NORMALLY petroleum is producted, transported and distributed..
so if you don't pay for the product you buy, SOMEONE ELSE (other countries people, enviroment, disasters) will pay for you!!!

by the way:
evolve yourself, try to beacome a citizen and stop beeing a "consumer"!!!

1:0 for you El... :-DDD

Why not? You are as a consumer partly responsible in my view as you exercise demand. The demand is basically the only justification for such a company to exist.

And many people can't even pay for the electricity of their fridge. Clever solution, really.

Nuclear power is the worst...but there's nothing better yet. Im sure that if scientist would try a bit harder to find almost-free alternative energies, and leading governments would apply them without selfishness life would be much better. But until than...yes.

What happened with Deep Horizon isn't normal. And of course someone else will pay.

But not to take such big risks. That company will be punished because of 1) brand image damage and 2) rise of costs without rise of revenues.

That is a flaw in the market mechanism then. Or would you pay voluntarily more? Or do you actually do research before you buy petrol? If BP does take high risks and sell their petrol for 1,50 a litre, you go there instead of to shell that takes lower risks but sells the petrol at 1,55.
