Anyone ever done a philosopy of science exam? What the hell is it all about? I dont like understand 75% of the words written in those books by Chalmers or Wittgenstein.

It's almost everything you really need to understand to do science :P
The main questions they ask are "What can we know?", and especially "How can we get to know it?".
In Wittgenstein you get Wittgenstein's point of view on these issues. Chalmers reviews the history of philosophy of science, explaining the different views that appeared in time.

In terms of usefulness, the chapters on Popper and Lakatos would be the most important ones in order to understand the key concepts of the modern scientific method (things like you can't possibly prove that all crows are black but you can prove that just one crow is, say, white, in which case you also prove that "all crows are black" or "there are no white crows" is false - so when it comes to general laws, you can only prove them false but never really prove them true). Plus the one on Thomas Kuhn to understand why everything is not as simple as Popper would present it.

In terms of your exam, god knows what you'll be asked in order to "prove" you have studied :P I have no clue how it is where you study, but back in my days I only needed a general understanding of Chalmers' main points for an end-of-high school course. For the university course on the same topic, either Chalmers was easy to you or you better stayed away from anything science-related :P

Really encouraging:D

But thanks for the answer, i never thought i might actually get an answer here.
I think the easy way out would be to learn about their views from wikipedia. At least its something i understand a bit more. Really not my cup of tea i guess.
