And this is how you make this wonderfull dish :P
Ingredients
Serves: 4
1,2kg potatoes for mashing
250g bacon, cubed
4 pork sausages
big splash of milk, or as needed
pinch of nutmeg, or to taste
salt and pepper, to taste
100g butter, or to taste
400g endive, finely shredded
175g Goudse kaas, cheese (if you like)
1/ Bring a big pot of lightly salted water to the boil. Add the potatoes and boil for 20 to 25 minutes. Drain and set aside.
2/ Place the cubes of bacon in a frying pan and heat until evenly brown and crispy. Set aside. Cook the sausages in the same pan until they're browned on all sides and cooked through.
3/ Add a big splash of milk, nutmeg, salt and pepper and 3/4 of the butter to the potatoes. Mash until you have a smooth puree. Add more butter, salt and pepper to taste. Add more milk if mash is too dry.
4/ Gradually add shredded endive to the mash and mix, until all endive is used. Mix in the cooked bacon as well, with a little bit of the fat from the pan. Add grated cheese. Reheat and mix until the cheese has melted and the dish is heated through. Serve with the sausages.
You can replace endive by kale, carrots+onions, arugula+paprika, etc etc.

Stamppot (mashed dishes) is very traditional Dutch food, mainly eaten when cold outside, not really summer food.
it's similar to what in italy is called "russian salad"
(my dog will probably refuse to eat that dutch mess.. brrr..)

Even the same as I would refuse to eat your dog's mush :-p
@charly: you forgot the main ingredient, and in any way the main ingredient of 85% of all dutch dishes...
Peanut Butter!! :-s :-p

As an American wrote, Dutch 'stamppot' looks terrible but it must be healthy, as the Dutch are on average the tallest people in the world.
No, just a few dishes have satay sauce (also known as pinda sauce) in it or on it. Accidental, today I had a sate schnitzel, crispy on the outside and burning hot on the inside ;)
Peanut butter is to spread on slices of bread, like I do in the morning with sprinkles on top, because peanut butter without a bit of sugar is so dry and sticky :/

Because being tall IS being healthy :-p
Who was the American author? Trump? :-p

And a snack that needs satay sauce on it, berenklauw (bearclaw), no idea why it is called that way. Ball of meat (already cooked), sliced in parts, union parts in between en deep fried. After that topped with the sauce :D
Usually eaten with fries.

I knew some dutch folks back in the days...
They ate it with almost everything. Even their BBQ meat was dumpled in that :-s
I asked, on a nutshell, if they were nuts.
But they nutted. I was nut amused :-p

instead of sugar, try honey - healthier and tastier

I just read that it isn't only because of health, also because of evolution. Taller people had more children. Their genes are passed on more often.

Google a real bear claw... you'll see the resemblance ;-)
In Belgium we also eat that... but without the sauce!
It's typically dutch to put such a sauce over something to eat... That's why Belgians invented the 50 alternative sauces for fried food and BBQ food ;-)

nuts :P
Yeh, ofcourse we have peanut sauce with our bbq! That is one of THE sauces needed with bbq-ing. Not only to dip your meat in, also for sliced baguettes ;) When people are done waiting, bread and peanut sauce is always the first to be attacked.
peanut sauce and these sauce are almost always used with a Dutch bbq.
Peanut sauce is used often in snackbars :) Fits very well with a lot of snacks.

Will try it some day, I do have honey. I give it a try this week. Is most probably a good combination with peanut butter.
