Subject: WC Daegu (track and field)

I wonder how long does it take now to take back that idiotic one mistake rule and implement the old rule where you were allowed 1 mistake and then another one got you out :)

Worst world championships that i´ve seen so far, dunno if its the poor weather or whatever but so many low results.

7. Nesta Carter (Jam) 10"95

Last one in the final...That's really slow :-O
2011-08-28 14:41:51
yeah lol, i was wondering how he got in the finals at that speed.

or maybe something was wrong with him?...
2011-08-28 14:43:32
I think he had a bad start, couldn't keep up and after 70-80m he more or less gave up.

This false-start-rule is a bit silly though. However Kim Collins ftw :D

he seemed to jog the last meters, so probably some injury or something

Why should it be change? 1 person can use this 1 mistake to take all others out of their concentration by a false start on purpose. Beside, a lot of the Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) is used in the first few meters/seconds and won't be replaced in a very short time in the muscles. The 1 who made the false start on purpose knew this and won't have use the ATP and will have it all left in his muscles for the second run. All others did use part of the ATP as they made a real start and because they used part of it, they will be slower in the second run.

So this is a fair rule if you ask me :)

The problem is that loads of runners get knocked out - Dwayne Chambers for example (ridiculous) - and it's no good. Now Athletics' cashcow hasn't won a medal the rule will be gone for the Olympics.

So? That was because they wanted a quick start, but didn't wait for the go. It's their own mistake.

But everyone is free to use that kind of "tactic" ;) However I think false-starts were not that a big deal in the past and made on purpose.
2011-08-28 15:56:15
No, not everyone, only 1 person could. In the past everyone could use that tactic, but that's a long time ago.

And if everyone can do a good start in the second run, why not the first run and give everyone exactly the same chance? Only downside of this rule is probably less worldrecords as they have to wait now.

He seemed to be injured, he didn't run at full speed more than 30 m.

i do sprint myself and i think it's very bad rule
Sometimes you have some idiotic noises in those big stadiums
so if you react on the bad sound your screwed

i hope they change that rule again (i never had a bad start before)
but i really don't like that rule

I know everyone is talking about Bolt, but the way Chambers went out was pretty weird, he only moved her shoulders a bit and got a false start, never seen someone go out like that. Would be interesting to see how much did he rob.

you may not move in your startingblocks (they mesure the presure on the block if it change a bit your out)

that's one of the reasons i find it a stupid rule
