Subject: KONY 2012

2012-03-10 11:25:46
I am sorry but that joke is just hilarious. It is joking exactly the part of KONY 2012 which is irritating and that's what makes it so funny.

It is funny though. :)

Of course that sharing has SOME sense, but only in the USA

all such shares outside US have us much sense as posting that Pony...which I will do right away ;-)

How many of you (including myself) had ever heard of Kony before (and I'm not talking about the LRA or child soldiers)??

If your answer is 'not', this action proves it point and you are already part of it :) And even posting a Pony, based on the pictures of Kony, are helping as people will wonder what it is about and start searching the internet ;) (a nice saying: even bad publicity is publicity, and it will make people aware)

EDIT: I forgot to mention this :) Another good thing, yesterday I heard from someone I know and didn't saw it on the internet yet, this Kony action has been on the Dutch radio. So it is also reaching people that are not so active on the internet and also people that do have some power to change things and didn't know about it yet. Now they also know.

I did, but I agree that most people don't and in this sense...it makes sense ;-)

the thing is, it's an all-American action and whether it gains interest in Poland/Slovakia/Italy/Greece etc. is irrelevant to the outcome

It's not all-American anymore, I bet that enough Euro's are coming in these days ;)

Well, since the soldiers already are in Uganda and it's now all about keeping people informed and interested in the subjec [which the viral video already did], do you really think that there is a need for more money? ;-)

I don't know. He is a filmmaker and somekind of protester so I think probably more films will be made. And I won't be surprised if this really ends this year he will start a new project. Often these people have so many ideas, only not enough money to make all the ideas happen.

For example, if my boss can get a couple of million Euro's all money will be gone in a few years into film productions as he has so many ideas, and after that he would still need millions for all his other ideas ;) These people didn't choose these jobs in films because of the lack of ideas in their head and the willingness to go for it.

It's been on swedish television as well, so it's really spreading to more places than just on the internet. They didn't actually speak that well of this thing on television, but the information spread anyway, so people who maybe had missed this found out about it.

There really have been many kinds of reactions to Kony 2012.

Some think everything about it is great. They support the organisation and wants Kony gone.
Some think the message of getting rid of Kony is good, but they don't support the organisation.
Some think that even though the organisation is far from perfect, they still support them and their cause.
Some think this is Illuminati and Kony never existed.
Some think this is just USA wanting oil and has made up a reason to go into Uganda.
Some just don't care at all.

Perhaps there's even more, but these are ones I've come across.
Strange thing is that I can't remember seeing anyone who support of capturing Kony, but will support another organisation. There are after all other organisations who are doing similar work as Invisible Children.

Interesting experiment... I say yes, but...
...having said that, just hope it doesn't backfire... there is a astounding amount of activism going on in the world right now - its fashionable - one might say - yet done with little sense, the actual impact and results are scares / very few, and its very otfen not followed by actual long-term planning with inteligence. (a bit like hussein in iraq - was american intervention succesful in the long term?)

I think overdoing sm'thing can have the opposite effect, Kony (probably won't but,) just might become a new Che Guevara type of icon celebrity with... let's say 90% of people not knowing the actual facts, still fingers crossed it works... :-)

Exactly. Nice post and nice blog. There are many villains in this world and hunting them all down, killing them at any cost and stopping at nothing doesn't sound like a very smart strategy. I would definately think twice about supporting an organisation which is pro military intervention with a motto "Stop At Nothing".

I would definately think twice about supporting an organisation which is pro military intervention with a motto "Stop At Nothing".

I don't think supporting pro military intervention is the biggest problem, but to ask children around the world to support and donate for military intervention, that's the only 'but' I have with this kind of actions. Children should only be informed, asking for military intervention isn't something that should be done by children.
Like Charles said, the military intervention is not the problem (from voluntaryist point of view). On contrary, there is only one possibility to stop this lunatic, and that is military intervention. He started the violence so it's okay to use violence to stop his violence.
I am not questioning military intervention per se. Of course that it's often the only solution. If someone stopped Milošević already when he attacked Croatia, we can only imagine how Bosnia would look today. I am only saying that maybe at the moment military intervention is not necessary any more, i.e. that he doesn't pose that large threat any more. There are many statements from people in Uganda claiming that he retreated.

And he will obviously come back ass soon as there is no longer a military intervention, don't you agree?
